Default Help me!

Hi all,

I have a predicament. My doctor has just put in a referral for weight loss surgery for me and I have no idea how long the wait is going to be, it could be 3 months to 1.5 years...

My husband and I were planning to start TTC #2 sometime in between November '09 and May '10 and now I don't know what to do! Do I start TTC now instead and hope that my surgery is not for at least a year? or do I wait and hope that surgery is in the next 3 months?? We didnt want to have our first two children too many years apart or too close together, if I get pregnant in the next 6 months they wont even be 2 years apart but if I wait until 2 years after WLS Sophie could be 5!

Help??

I understand the need to ttc...I went through 8 years of failed treatments prior to my WLS but I'm sooo glad that I waited until I had surgery to get pregnant. My health prior to surgery was bad for my age. I was not only IR but diabetic, I had high blood pressure & severe sleep apnea...not knocking pregnancy with those conditions, but being pregnant WITHOUT them was sooo much better for me & baby. Also, you don't really have to wait 2 years post op to get pregnant. Many surgeons still recommend waiting that long, but as long as your around a year post op you should be just fine. There are LOTS of post op women getting pregnant way before the 2 year mark, many of them even getting pregnant before the 1 year mark and still having very healthy babies. I got pregnant the 1st time at 16 months post op and the 2nd time at 3.5 years post op. I would have gotten pregnant sooner than the 16 month mark but was on a medication for anti-TB that I couldn't get pregnant on...other wise I would have started ttc a few months sooner when I had reached goal.

What steps do you need to take to get approved for surgery? I went from informational seminar to surgery in 4 months. Have you called your insurance carrier to see what they require for approval? Some insurance companies require more 'hoops' to jump through than others. Which surgery are you looking to have?

Regardless on what you decide GL! Also feel free to ask questions...I'm more then willing to answer as best as I can, and hopefully other WLS post opers will answer too.

Over here we dont need to have insurance for health care, its all provided by the government, I dont need to take any steps to get approved, the referral has been sent in and I just received my consult date yesterday, april 14th!!! I Cant believe its so soon, I'm so happy...

In saying all this, I know pcos plays a factor and I've just had a baby but I have not had my period for 7 weeks and I have the same symptoms I had when I found out I was pregnant with sophie! I'm in a predicament again if I am pregnant and they want to set a surgery date!!! Oh well, I'm on the injection so if I am pregnant this baby was meant to be!

Good luck with your consult! Remember to write down questions as you think of them so that you can take them with you to see the surgeon. I wish I would have done that because I got to my appt and then drew a complete blank on some of the questions I'd wanted to ask.

As far as the possible pregnancy...when will you test? I see that your little girl is almost a year old. When did your AF return after having her? I induced AF after my 1st daughter but so far have not done that and I'm 14w post partum now with no sign of AF as I'm breastfeeding. Anyway keep me posted!

Honestly we ttc even after I had a surgery date.... We stopped about 6 weeks before surgery. My thought ...either I get pg or have the surgery.... I didn't care which was first.... We didn't get pg and I had the surgery. I have a 2.5 yr old son and can't wait until I can ttc #2 again in a few months.
