Default Help me figure out my pill-popping schedule!

Hi Ladies,

I'm currently taking levothyroxine for my thyroid (one pill a day), as well as Diane-BCP, also one pill a day. So far, this has worked out fine, I take my levothyroxine in the a.m. on an empty stomach, and then my bcp at night before bed.

But now I'm adding Metformin to the mix, and will eventually be taking it 4 times a day.

How do I figure out a schedule!?

This is what I am thinking:

Levo: 7:00 a.m.
Met: 8:00 a.m.
Met: 1:00 p.m.
Met: 6:00 p.m.
Met: 11:00 p.m.
Diane: 12:00 a.m.

Now the problem is I've read that you should leave at least 2 hours between medicines, but I don't think I could truthfully stick to that. Is one hour ok between Levo/Met, & Diane/Met? What about taking them together? (I know I can't take the Met at once, and we don't have extended release here).

Thanks for any input!!

You schedule looks good, but is your day really that long? You only left 7 hours to sleep. I would be dragging.

It really doesn't matter if you take a BCP with another med, as long as you take it the same time very day. That might help with your scheduling.

you could take two metformin pills at a time so you only have to take it twice a day. i know some ladies who do that here as well as others who take it all at once.

My day is pretty long, especially now since my son is starting school in the mornings, I'll be up quite early.

I didn't know you could take more then one Met at once - is that smart? I'm afraid I'll be in the washroom within minutes of doing that, lol!

I'm not sure to tell you the truth. I'm only on 1000mg/day right now. I bet if you asked about it on the Metformin board the ladies would tell you more about it and how it affected them, or you could ask your doctor or pharmacist if it's okay (which would probably be the best idea). Hope that helps!

Thanks, you are right about asking on the Met board, etc. These threads tend to stray

I don't recommend taking more than one Met. at a time. I did once and I did have to spend some time in the bathroom. My advice is to space the Met. as you have written, but make sure you take it with a bit of food to help ease the side effects. After a couple of weeks most of the side effects will cease, especially if you are watching your diet. Best of luck to you!

I'm taking 1 levo and 2 met pills a day. More often than not I forget to take my met in the morning and end up taking all 1700 mg at night. This doesn't cause a problem for me at all. I've also been taking it for a year and had my fair share of problems when I started. In an ideal world I would remember to take one met and my levo in the morning and the other met at night. This is what I do when I remember. I would ask your doc what he suggests and/or recommends about combining meds.

I think you should ask your doctor. I believe that it's okay to take 2 different meds at the same time but confirm it with your doctor. In that case you could take levo+met in the morning, met at noon and afternoon and then met+bcp in the evening. That's what I would ask my doc if it's okay.

I am on 2000mg of met a day. I take 1000mg in the morning and 1000mg at night before bedtime along with vytorin (cholesterol med) and I take two fish oil pills and two calcium tablets daily. I am also on byetta shots. I don't have to worry about BCP. My Metformin pills are 1000mg each pill. When I was increasing my dosages, the pharmacist started me out on 500mg tablets and once I reached the 2000mg mark, he switched me to 1000mg tablets. I hope this helps.

You don't have to leave 2 hours between all meds. You should be okay taking your pills together.Sometimes they want you to not take any antacids with your thyroid meds, but there are people who take anywhere from 2-15 pills at the same time together. If you are concerned that you can't take them together double check with your doc.from what I remember when I worked for an Internal Medicine doctor you should be able to take your thyroid med, bcp, and first dose of met. together then you will only have to take the other 2 met.doses throughout the day. Remember medicine is not meant to run our lives but help us out,so check with your doc.so your won't have to spend your day watching the clock for your next pill time.GL!!!
