well, pending the arrival of AF in the next few days, we are scheduled for our first IUI in May sometime. It has been 8 months since we lost our first child, who was conceived naturally. We have tried Clomid and we have tried natural therapies, including Dong Quai and Vitex. Despite all this help, regular AF, regular O and a great SA for DH, we remain very un-pregnant. So we are going to help nature out this month.
I have been deliberating how to prepare for this. CD 1 I will wipe out all alcohol and chocolate. I did a cleanse in early March and I am thinking about just doing the vegetable juice each morning, then a normal meal for lunch and dinner. Does anyone have any advice? I don't smoke and don't have any caffeine in my diet - am a bit thin, but healthy.
We have to use Clomid CD 2-6, so I am a bit worried about other herbal remedies interfering with it. Ideas? I plan to continue taking the Flaxseed Oil and Folate only. Any potential problems there?
I am also thinking about taking a nice long yoga class each day after the trigger and 2 days after IUI - I find in yoga I can visualise a lot going on in my body and I relax much more readily. Any thoughts on this idea?
Gosh, it's all getting a bit scary now....
Thanks in advance for any thoughts or advice (or even positive vibes!).
I don't have any specific suggestions for you in your diet. I did have two IUIs one month in 2001, no success. (we're going to start ttc again this fall if I can get my symptoms under control).
As far as Clomid goes, I think the biggies to stay away from are the ones that decrease estrogen (since Clomid works by increasing your estrogen). You are definitely OK with flaxseed. I heard that black cohosh is a big no-no with Clomid.
I am a HUGE proponent of yoga - I think if we all did more yoga, the world would be a much better place. I think yoga would be great before/after the IUI, but after the IUI, I wouldn't do any of the poses that you shouldn't do during menstruation - inversions, down dog, etc. - definitely ask your yoga teacher about it (hopefully you feel comfortable enough to do so), and it DEFINITELY wouldn't hurt at all to do menstrual restoratives (like supta virasana, supta bada konasana, janu sirsana, etc.).
It sounds like you're doing all you can. The yoga will be of huge benefit if it brings relaxation. The cleanse that you've done has no doubt prepared you well, physically. Stay the course. You seem to be heading in the right direction.

Hi Megan! Just wanted to wish you luck with the IUI. That was the only thing that worked for us, although it ended in a very early miscarriage. We will be trying another one again in June. Take care! Can't wait to hear how it goes.
