Hello All
Im new here,and am very happy to have found this great site!
I have been taking Metformin for nearly a month now as well as an oral contraceptive for my PCOS
Since taking these I have put on nearly 14 pounds despite excersize and a healthy diet.
I also feel nauseous and have stomach cramps almost all the time and have practically no energy...and man!-dont get me started on my bad moods!!!
Plus i am craving sugar like never before!-it takes ALL my energy to walk pass the junkfood aisle at the supermarket!
Im wondering if anyone else here has experienced these kind of problems on Met and if so what did you do to ease these?

When I went on the pill when I was 15, I piled on weight until I was 100 lbs overweight. There was NO reason for the weight gain. It stopped when I went off the pill at 19.

I am COMPLETELY convinced that the weight gain happened because of my PCOS and going on the pill.

The other symptoms you are experiencing are S/E of being on met. Are you taking it with a meal and with milk? I know for me, it lessens the symptoms when I make sure I eat while I take the pill. You need to find out what works for you. Try different things, lower carbs, taking it on an empty stomach etc. Experiment.

I lost weight while on the pill and met together BUT I was also folloowing the south beach diet that my RE recommended at the time. I had a really hard time when I was on generic met, lots of nasty side effects and no weight loss. Once I started on fortamet (extended release) version of met, I saw a huge difference.
