I've been on Metformin for about 2 months(1 month at 1000g and the second at 1500g). I have been low carbing as well(though I have cheated quite often). My doctor gave me progesterone to help my period come on a normal cycle. I have been taking the progesterone for six months and it has done a very good job of keeping me on a 28 day cycle with 5 days bleeding. I could set my watch to my periods. Well, since i've been on metformin, my period has been 3 days late for the past 2 cycles and the length of my period is getting shorter. They've gone from 5 days to 4 for the previous cycle and 3 for this cycle. Is this normal? Also, the bleeding has lessend significantly. It is still clearly a period, but not nearly as heavy. What does all of this mean?

I'm not sure if I am the norm, but before I got pg, I went from erratic cycles to short, light, three day cycles with a combo of 2550mg met and weight loss.
I am sure it varies from person to person though. I'd hang around for some more opinions.
Good Luck! *Aimee*

Erractic periods are normal until your hormones normalize. my first year on Met, my periods ranged from 32-63 days, until I got my diet consistent. When I did that. it really helped the Met to lower my hormones faster and I saw a real difference. The last year i have been 30-34 days like clockwork. I have also seen a shortening of the length of my periods...I used to bleed heavily for 7-10 days, now I am totally done in 3 days. That's very normal.
Hope that helps!

Now that you are on Met, maybe that will be enough to regulate your periods and your doc can get you off the progesterone? Since Met indirectly affects hormones, your body may be very confused with both of the medications. Just a thought.
