I'm writing in this forum for my friend, who asked me to post on here since she is not a PCOS member. I am hoping perhaps some of you can help with any information.
She has been pregnant twice and miscarried at almost exactly the same point (about 6 weeks). Both times her ultrasound revealed an intact sac but no heartbeat and growth. The first time she miscarried was in April 2008 and her doctor told her she HAD to have a D&C. The second time she M/C was in December 2008 and by then she had moved to another state and this doctor told her it was her choice whether or not have have another D&C or pass it naturally. It has been 3 weeks and she has had some cramping and slight spotting but another ultrasound today revealed the sac was still there and nothing had passed. This new doctor of hers also prescribed 1500mg of Met daily which blows my mind because she has had no problem conceiving both times and she does not have PCOS! I told her she needs to get a full blood workup before taking anything and an ultrasound of her ovaries!
Does anyone else have any suggestions, clues, or help for her? She feels so lost in all of this.
Thanks in advance.

I think the doctor sounds slightly quacky.
1) If they thought the baby could miscarry naturally as mine did, then it should have started by now. Although, they did say if mine stalled there was some medication they could give me to trigger the bleeding ect. She should be able to get that.
2) I have heard some woman say it can take many weeks before they miscarried naturally. It took one woman on this site so long that she decided to have a D&C, because emotionally she could not wait any longer. Your friend could choose that option.
3) The met being presribed without any bloodwork being done is slightly crazy. My doctor said that typically after two miscarriages there is blood work that can be done on you and your DH. I don't know the technical info, but basically the DH genetics can fight with yours causing the baby to quit developing. In addition, you can have blood clotting disorders ect that can lead to miscarriage
I only have had one miscarriage, but my doctore went ahead and sent my blood and DH for testing to determine if he or I genetically faught or if I had a clotting disorder....option 3 it was a freak of nature that caused it.
You don't have to have PCOS to be treated with Metformin for early pregnancy loss. Maybe through bloodwork, her doctor knows something that she doesn't? I think she needs to go back and talk to him about it and get some clarity.
