I've been on Met 1000 mg and Spiro 50 mg for a week now (yes, I know it's soon) but all of a sudden I am breaking out in zits, my hair is getting oily, and I'm shedding like a cat!! WHY??? Berfore Met and Spiro I would only get a zit (ONE, two tops) near my period, and my hair was so dry sometimes I'd have to wash it every OTHER day- now it's so oily I look like John Travolta in Grease!
Can someone please shed some light? Has this happened to you? More importantly, is it TEMPORARY????

I can't say for sure but from what I have read this is common at first. it takes a while to ajust the new hormone levals in your body so they really go out of wack. But again I'm not sure Cysters Help???
I really dont know why this would happen and I dont have any great suggestions. All I can say is that Im sorry and it SUCKS for the meds to do this to you! I wonder if it is the Met or the Spiro, or just the combination. Maybe you should talk to your doctor and get off the spiro and see what happens on Met alone? I dunno though, good luck!

I started Met. a couple of months ago at 1000mg. then went to 1500mg. The only thing I noticed was being bloated and real gassy. Sometimes I felt a little sick to my stomach.
The worst thing was I stayed hungry all the time and I was gaining weight. I had read where most people were able to lose weight and have their cycles regulate.
Well I had alread lost alot of weight and was having very regular cycles before I started the met. so I decided to stop taking it. I quit met. about 3 days ago and I'm not staying hungry and I've really deflated from being so bloated!
Meds. work different for different people. Sorry I couldn't have been more help to ya!

I got off Spiro for this reason, I have been on it a week also along with Met BUT I have been on the MET for a month. I have not had one zit until I started the spiro and my face is oily and broke out and my hair is really nasty. And I have been really bloated.
I stopped the Spiro and I feel better. I know for sure it is not the MET as I have been on it once before and now I have been on it a month

I have noticed that since I have been taking Metformin, my skin is way more oily than it usually was, my hair is also the same. I sometimes have to wash my hair atleast once a day, sometimes without using conditioner, because after a day, it looks dirty again. I have naturally curly hair and with the humidity here in Iowa the way it is, not using conditioner is like pure madness!!
It's just not an option. I have also read where Metformin helps people lose the weight and all that. I can't see where it is doing anything for me, except for giving me reasonably bad *and TMI...smelly* diarhhea. It's not helping me shed the pounds, not helping me have a normal cycle *as I have not had one since April !!!!* and not helping me do squat! I also noticed that I have mild acne more often than before the meds. I hate it!
My doctor here in town has me taking 5 pills of Met a day. I started out with 1 pill, twice a day. Then 2 pills twice a day. Now I am up to 5. I am not taking any other meds along with the Metformin.
