Unhappy HELP! My mustache is taking over!

Hey girls, I am kinda freaking out is there anything I can do for my mustache that won't make the hair comeback thicker or darker or God forbid both! I noticed today that my mustache that used to be just to the corners of my mouth is starting to branch out toward my cheeks. It is not too thick or really dark it is a little darker than most peoples but not that noticable.(untils the sun hits it just right!) Can anyone give me some advice. Thanks all for your help.

Why not shave? Get a good electric razor designed for men -- I find the Norelcos are easily the best for me. Use the trimer to trim it down to nothing then the main heads to keep it cut. The Norleco cutters will actually grip the hair before it's long enough for anyone to notice it, they'll hold it firm while the head depresses your skin and then they'll cut the hair very close, so that when the skin returns to its normal level, the hair is underneat the skin level. Shaving only cuts the hair, so there's no way it'll cause the hair to come back either thicker or darker.

I've never shaved. I use the cream hair remover 2 times per week and it keeps mine okay. I use it all over my face & neck b/c sometimes I get a stray hair on my neck or something. It's like five bucks at walmart. I use surgicream brand. It even comes with lotion for your face so it doesn't turn red. Try it!!

That is probably the hair that bothers me the most of all- the stuff branching to the cheeks from the mouth area! Grrrr. Just a tip for you or anyone else who is leery of shaving just yet- try doing it in the shower, just whenever you're doing your legs or something. It makes it less depressing when you don't have to watch yourself doing it.

I think the problem with shaving is indeed mostly a psychological one. Shaving the face is thought of as the ultimate "male" thing. So shaving our face for the first time amounts to admitting that we've got a moustache like a man. It's like a bit of our femininity dies. But on the other hand, recognizing the reality of moustache and/or beard growth is the first step to dealing with it effectively and shaving becomes so much a part of life that we no longer think of it in a negative way. I was shaving my moustache every day from age 15, so it's simply a part of my life. At 15, of course it was embarrassing to be shaving like a boy -- or indeed more often than the boys of my own age. But now at 50+ it doesn't bother me at all. And it's certainly never embarrassed my dh to have a wife who shaves as often as he does.

I think that is partly my reason for not shaving my face. I want to feel as feminine as possible and you're right...that SEEMS like a man thing. Another for me is that I was told never shave anything b/c it'll grow back thicker and darker. That is still stuck in my head although I shaved my arms in high school (god knows why b/c the hair is mostly blonde!!) and it never got thicker.

I spent most of my teenage years wanting to feel feminine and finding it very difficult because though my nipples developed, my breasts didn't, I was hairy as a guy and I had a heavier moustache than most of the boys my age -- I was shaving every day when most of them were only shaving once or twice a week. I needed to wear my hair long and wear skirts to make it obvious I was a girl. Over the years I've felt less and less need to be "girly." Partly it's because at 50 and with a dh and a family I reckon I don't need I need to demonstrate to anyone that I'm a woman. Partly it's that I'm happy with myself as I am -- if I've a moustache (and nowadays beard growth too) so be it. If other people don't like that, it's their problem.

Shaving doesn't make the hair grow either faster or coarser, though of course regrowth is more stubbly than with other methods of hair removal.

I too use the hair removal cream(makes my skin feel weird after use, lol). I haven't tried it on my neck area yet just upper lip.

I also have an excellent hair plucker and pluck the hairs, this may hurts(I'm growing more used to it). My facial hair grows back very quickly and I have to manage it almost every other day.

It pays off to invest in a good hair plucker Happy plucking lol

Ahh, yes. I can't forget being 15 and my pretending I didn't hear my (older) brother loudly complaining to our dad that I had a moustache and he didn't. Now that I think about it, I actually used that as a retort to some boy making fun of my 'stache back in junior high; I informed everyone he was just jealous because he couldn't grow one. Seemed to shut him up.

Good for you! Give it back to them, I have never been directly confronted with my hair issues I just get staired sometimes when I have to sit on my hairy side! If at all possible I sit facing on the good side so people don't see the stubble side of my face but sometimes that is just not possible and then I get the look and then people start treating me different like I am contagious or something like my hair on my face is going to jump off my face onto thiers!(I wish it would) But anyway thanks for the support!

Waxing may be a good option. If you get the wax that doesn't require the strips, you can generally remove hair of any size at any time throughout the growing process. Waxing can actually help slow the growth and thin the hair out. Good luck!
