Default Help needed, advice about Marvelon and missed periods :(

Hi!
I've been on dianette for years and have been very happy however, my nurse practitioner has decided to changeme onto Marvelon as she was not happy that I'd been on d for a decade.
So, I've been on it a month, no problems no side effects etc.... apart from now. My period is very late. in fact I start my next lots of pills in 2 days and I've had nothing.
I'm getting married in August and work is hectic but these things have never affected me before. When I dont take the pill I don't have periods at all.
Is amrvelon too weak a pill for me? WHATS GOING ON!!!!!
I'm so frustrated!!!
xx

Hi,

I was on Marvelon for a few years (Desogen in US in case people don't recognise the brand). It is unlikely that it is a "weak" pill. Skipping bleeds can be a sign that the progestogen is actually stronger than what you're used to. It is good you've changed to it though, it is a very good pill for PCOS. Although it isn't anything to worry about if it happens every now and then, if it continues past your first 2-3 months (and you have ruled out pregnancy with a test), you should ask your doctor for a pill with a different progestogen such as Cilest/Ortho-Cyclen or Yasmin.

Basically if you don't bleed whilst on the pill it isn't dangerous, just more inconvenient and weird. But it could just be that your body cannot tell the difference in the decrease of hormones, or that the progestogenic effect is so strong it takes far longer for you body to start the withdrawal bleed. Like I said, if it continues past 2 months or so, go to the doctor again!

Good luck, hope this helps xx
