Default Help needed controlling fasting levels

Hi Ladies,

I have GD and since we don't have a separate forum for this, I thought of posting here since this is the place where I can get maximum help. I am frustrated at my fasting levels. Today it was 107. My full day (after meal) levels are very good. yesterday night after dinner it was 103. Then why does it increase in the morning? Could it be related to how much time elapses between my dinner and time of fasting reading? I have my dinners around 9 pm and take the fasting reading at 7:30 am next morning. Appreciate any tips on lowering my fasting levels otherwise I need to go on meds which I am trying to avoid in this pregnancy. Thanks.

Those levels are quite good, even being pregnant. I had a lot of highs and lows during my pregnancy, and my baby came out just fine. No problems. The only issue was she was born hypo, b/c my sugar was high with the stress of the C-section. When the mother's sugar level is high, the unborn baby goes too low.
Blood sugars rise naturally in your sleep, you might need insulin at bedtime to control them during the night. But, really, 107 is not a bad reading. I wish mine had been that good during my pregnancy! I was on two types of insulin: bedtime and daytime.
Eat a high protein snack before bed, and maybe eat dinner a little earlier.
Good Luck, and you can email me with any questions: kls972@aim.com

Hi! I found that a tablespoon of peanut butter right before i go to bed really helps with my fasting sugars. What was happening with me was that my body was releasing stored glucose early in the morning before i woke up, because my sugars were going too low. So when i woke up and tested, they were high. When i started eating the peanut butter, because the body burns it so slow, it was enough to keep my sugars fairly level, so when i woke up, my body hadn't released extra sugar, and my fasting glucose was much better. Its worth a try! Good luck!
