After several years of irregular bleeding, controlled by the pill, I met with a new doctor today, who after a 30 minute consult, told he I have PCOS. He's doing a sono and bloodwork, but he was pretty certain. Since going of the pill in June to try and conceive, my periods have been coming further apart (last cycle was 38 days). He told me to keep trying, although getting pregnant would be "a shot in the dark" without treatment. I'm devastated....and a little confused because I don't have many of the symptoms I keep seeing...I do not have excess hair, I am not especially overweight (I'm 28 years, 5'5", 150) I could stand the lose the 10-15 pounds I've put on the last 6-8 months, but by no means overweight. I do not have acne. I have always gotten my period regularly, although was usually on the the pill for the last 10 years. I'm so scared at the possibility of not conceiving.....I need advice! What am I in for?
Your story sounds very similar to mine. I never had a regular period and was put on the pill when I was 18 to regulate it. I went off the pill once we started talking about having children and once off it I got about 2 periods a year. I was told I wouldn't be able to have children without fertility meds. Somehow God blessed me with a little boy who is now 16 months old! We weren't trying and I wasn't on any fertility meds. I got pregnant in October when my last period was in August. Anything is possible! So many women have great success stories so keep your head up!
Now I have been on metformin for about 2.5 months. My last period before I started metformin was in July. I started met in the beginning of August and I got another period in September which was great as I normally wouldn't have another one for quite some time! I think the metformin is working!
Hi and welcome! I'm a newbie here, and a newbie to PCOS (just found out this past week).
