Default HELP! Not sure if i should take Met

Hi all, hoping for some advice please!

I have been diagnosed with PCOS but have had no hormonal imbalances come back on my blood work.

I have obesity, irregular periods, facial hair, hair loss, acne and on an intravaginal scan, my ovaries were covered in cysts.

I have been prescribed met - 500mg 3x daily.

I'm wondering if I should take it?

Has anyone else with no hormonal imbalance or insulin resistance taken met?

Also, do i take it 3 x per day from day one, or increase it gradually?

Thanks in advance!

Even if you don't have hormonal imbalance on the blood tests, there's something going on with your hormones that's causing the acne, hair growth and loss, and the cysts. Start at one Met pill (or if the stomach s/e are too much buy a pill splitter and start at 250 mg) for a week or two and then increase every couple of weeks until you get to the full dose. Also, I found that if I take my dose before bed I sleep through a lot of the stomach discomfort. I added my second dose after lunch. Taking it first thing in the morning when you blood sugar is already low is not pleasant. GL!

i was told to increase my dosage gradually and this is the best advice, the met made me feel very poorly and i could not have coped with more than one to begin with. i have been on met for three months and ahve all the symptoms you have. i have combined my met with the weight watchers plan and have managed to lose half a stone in a fortnight which is fantastic but in terms of my periods and hair it has had no effect. i havent ovulated for 2 and a half years and even met hasnt done the trick but it is fantastic for weight loss.

I am not IR, and my endocrinologist put me on met. I was on 500mg for couple weeks,
than was increased to 1000 mg up till 3months, and now I started on 1500mg
( doctor increases my dose according to bw). I am not losing my hair as before,
but I am expecting more results. I will keep you updated.
