Thanks for listening!! 2 weeks ago I increased my glucophage xr to 2000mg every day from 1500mg every day. I am not IR and have not found glucophage to have any positive effects on me, but I heard it helps with clomid and I am starting clomid in 2 weeks. Anyways since my increase, my right ovary has been hurting and I have thick mucous everyday! I am not ovulating, and will just had my period 3 weeks ago through provera. Today my right ovary is hurting and it feels sort of swollen next to my hip bone. I am afraid I am developing a cyst. I had one removed in September for the 1st time by a lap from my right ovary. Do you think the glucophage is causing them to grow? I cannot have surgery again and am going to wait it out to see if the pain goes away!! Do PCOS people get functional cysts more often than "normal" women? I am pretty freaked out, but know if I go to the RE they wil just want to dosurgery or let it wait. Any ideas? Thanks for listening!! I am so tired of this disease!! I was just diagnosed in May and have had more problems since my diagnosis than before!!! Then I just had no periods!!! Much luck and love!!
{{{Courtnn}}}, I hope the pain goes away. No, metformin does not cause cysts. It can make you ovulate if you weren't before ... the pain might be follies growing or ovulation itself. I hope it's nothing bad.
What do you mean by "thick mucus"? Is it stretchy, sticky, creamy, clear, cloudy, watery?

I agree with Julie about the ovulation. I found that 2000mg of Glucophage was my most effective dose. Have you ever ovulated before so you can compare? When I first started ovulating after taking Glucophage, my left ovary, which had been silent for YEARS, hurt the worse. When I ovulated I would actually have to lay down for about an hour. Anyway, I'm not like that now and things for me are functioning well. You COULD go to the RE and ask for an us to see what is up with that ovary. Will give you a good idea one way or the other what has been happening with it.
Thank you both so much for responding!! I just got back from the ER and it is a 2.5cm ovarian cyst!! I only went as I was afraid it was my appendics!! I am so frustrated and cannot stop crying!! I feel as if the glucophage or provera is causing these!! I will call my RE in the am and hope she will not want to do surgery!! Thanks for listeing!! Have a good day!!
I'm sorry that you have another cyst! That really sucks big time! The thing about Glucophage is that as your insulin gets under control, your other hormones start regulating themselves. We PCOSers are prone to cycts...thus the name...but it sounds like something is still going on with your hormones for that cyst to pop up. Did they say anything else to you about it? When's the last time your Insulin and other hormones have been tested?
{{{courtrn}}}, I'm sorry it's a cyst, though it's in the same size range as mature follies. I hope your RE takes good care of you. Hang in there!

tHank you both so much for your support!! It helps to know that someone is out there who understands!! Here is the wacky part--I got my testosterone back today and it was 79!!! Before I started the Glucophage it was in the low 30's!! No wonder why my hair is falling out!!! Any ideas what is going on? I meet with my RE in the am!! WHat have I done!! By the way I am supposedly non-IR!!!! Much love!
