I had some bloodwork done in March that showed my DHEA at 1490. The normal range was from 400 - 990. I have seen several doctors since then and everything else seems to be normal. One of the doctors I have seen is a Reproductive Endocrinologist. She did an Ultrasound and said my ovaries look normal. She said she didn't think I have PCOS and sent me to a Medical Endocrinologist. After a consultation with him, he said he thinks I DO have PCOS and sent me for some more blood work. This round of bloodwork was done at the end of June and showed my DHEA even higher then it was in March at 2297. I had a 2 hour Glocose and Insulin test done which came back normal. My DHEA-S is normal and so are most of my other hormones, although some (prolactin, ACTH and cortisol) are 3 or 4 points from being high. My TSH is also normal but at the higher end of the range at 4.6 (range 1.0 - 5.0). I have various symptoms, such as extreme fatigue, uncontrollable and rapid weight gain, excessive facial hair, my feet turn purple and I am as miserable as can be. Has anyone who has been diagnosed with PCOS had these test results or symptoms? Or, does any of what's going on with me sound familiar to anyone? I don't know which doctor to believe and if I don't find out whats wrong with me soon, I think I'm gonna lose my mind. Please help!
I think you need to find a doctor who actively seeks to find out what the problem is! PCOS may be possible since there is such a wide variety of symptoms, but if you don't have a lot of the "tell-tale" symptoms then it could indicate another possible hormone problem.

My results were mostly normal. You don't have to ever have cysts to have PCOS. It's sad, but there is no ONE way to tell if a woman has PCOS. It is a diagnosis of elimination. If your problems are not just from other things, it might be PCOS. I hope someday all docs use the same methods and criteria for dxing PCOS!
