Default Help, please, getting desperate - should I stop taking it?

HI

I started on 500 mg about 11 days ago...upped to 1000 4 days ago...and I am barely functional. I feel so nauseous and tired..and it's getting worse. I had to cancel my trainer at the gym this morning - I barely had the energy to get to my desk...and yesterday I only worked 2 hours.

I can't carry on like this - I have a hug project with tight deadlines, and I need to be able to work on it.

How long does it take for side fx to die down once I stop taking it? This far through, am I better to hang in there? Any help/advice so gratefully appreciated - I am just at the end of my tether.

Why dont you go back to 500mg a day and stay there a little longer. I know that the side effects get better with time, but maybe your body just needs a little more time to adjust. I stayed on 500mg for about 2.5wks, and my RE said that was ok. Just listen to your body

Best Wishes!

I agree stay at the 500 mg longer.I stayed on it for 3 weeks because my stomach was telling me no. My Dr. even told me that you can cut those pills in half. So if you need to take 500mg as usual and then split one in half to take like 250mg. Hope the s/e get better for you and you can function better.

HUGS

I am a new member, but i have been reading some of these posts for awhile now...and I hope what I have to say is not redundant. I was terribly sick on Metformin HCL 500mg for about 3 months, I never got used to it. I was going to quit, but after reading some posts about women taking glucophage, I decided to call my doctor and try that on extended release. I have been taking that for a week now at 1,000mg, and i have not been sick once. It is amazing to me since I thought I would never leave my bathroom again on metformin. I know we are speaking of generic and namebrand here, but compared to the bottle of pepto I had to drink a day, I am not spending that much more. The extended release really helped me -- I just wanted to share that and thank anyone who had been talking about it.

HI - thanks so much for the responses.

My doc called back this morning, and suggested I cut back to 1/ day, and then once I am feeling OK, to cut the tab in half (as suggested here) And take 1.5 til I get used to it.

I"ll also wait til the project is in a lull before I work on increasing again, so I can take it easy without pressure.
