Default Help pleaseee!

I wasn't for sure where I needed to put this, So I picked here...

I was diagnosed w/ PCOS and Insulin Resistance about a year and a half ago. I'm 21 and I have been on BC Yasmin since Feb. Also on 1500 mg of Metformin XR a day.. Back in April after I had had sex for the first time I started being all spotty, then 2 days later it was my week of blank pills... So after that I started back on my pills and was on them for about 2 weeks and I was still being real steady and spotty, So I went to the doctor and she put me on 10 days of Progesterone, and that did the trick. Ok, So last month I was having a rough time, so I was only on the blank pills for 4 days before I started back on a new pack.. Ok so now I have taken 5 blank ones at the end of my pack and my period has yet to start.. I'm worried about this.. Back last month when I was having some problems and feeling all crappy, I went and took a Pregnancy test, and it was negative.. I have only had sex once, and that was in April, and fooled around in May but I'm sure I'm not pregnant.....So I'm wondering if it's just my IR and my PCOS that is outta shape and causing this to happen...

So anyone.. can you help? Have you had this happen before. Please help!!!

Thanks,
redrosesnkisses

This has definitely happened to me before.

Last year I thought I was pregnant - although I definitely didn't want to be. I took 2 tests, both negative, and I still went to my doctor to be sure! She said that its quite a common thing to happen if you've been messing around with your BCP (taking them without a break etc) and its a common symptom of PCOS.

As a general rule, if you miss more than 2 pills (or take more than 2 placebo pills) you should either stop taking them for 7 full days, or take the full 7 placebo pills. I think part of the problem could be that you skipped your period. I totally understand wanting to miss your period - I have the most appalling periods - but you really need to plan that ahead of time so that you don't get these nasty side effects.

If you've been taking Yasmin properly for a few months, and you're still having problems, you might want to consider changing pills. There are tons out there, and maybe a different one will work better for you.

Best of luck!

Thank goodnesss!! Whew.. That was a lil scary.. Still nothing going on there.. but glad to get a response...

I have done real good on Yasmin, until I started messing around w/ it and everything the last several months... I really like it.. I had tried Aleese and Ortho-Tri before.. and my body couldn't handle those.. Yasmin had done well....

But now I have no insurance.. and I'm going to have to start going to the Heath Dept. And they said they aren't for sure if they can get Yasmin or not! I'm really worried about switching to another pill. Is there any other pills that are like Yasmin??

Thanks,
Bridget

I don't think that you are pregnant. Usually tests are pretty accurate and if has been since april you would have def. already known. If you skip to many pills and mess up your cycle of your BCP's weird stuff will happen. To keep you straight your supposed to take your pill around the same time everynight. what i have done is set an alarm for everyday on my cell phone and at 10:00 it goes off and I know to take my medicine. hope you are feeling better soon!!!

It's doubtful you have been pregnant since April. BCPs are not considered a long term treatment for PCOS. You might want to talk to your doc about other methods of treating PCOS. Some ladies have found that BCPs cause problems for them in regards to their PCOS symptoms.

PCOS symptoms can seem to come in cycles. You may be free from certain symptoms for months or years, then suddenly you could have problems. Check out the articles board for more info. Have you been tested for insulin resistance and diabetes? Do you have cysts on your ovaries?

Certain home pregnancy tests don't seem to work for some cysters. For future reference you might want to ask around to the best types to use. I was using a store brand and kept getting negatives, but I was pregnant for probably one or two of the tests that came back negative. Also, sometimes the dose of a BCP needs to be adjusted for weight. There have been a few news stories out lately that fluffy ladies need a different level of meds, even BCPs. I don't have the link to that, but you might want to google it. Using two forms of BC seems to be a better insurance since so many cysters on here have gotten pregnant while using just one form of birth control. With PCOS you just don't know what could happen. Many ladies have found their cycles to be way off, or they were very, very fertile at certain times as opposed to other times when they were completely infertile. Charting seems to help some ladies, but many gyns say that is not enough.
