Default Help!!!!!Progesterone suplementation in pregnancy

Hey guys, I know this isn't a ttc board, but I am desperate. We live in Lancashire (just so the name doesn't confuse!), and I am 4w 6d pg with #1. I've seen my gp to get a p4 level done, and he spoke to the consultants at the local hospital, and has said that because this wasn't a medically assisted conception, they wont do levels, and that progesterone wasn't licenced for use in pregnancy in the U.K, so he couldn't prescribe it Are any of you on doctor prescribed progesterone? I've got a consultants appointment hopefully next Monday, so am trying to get as much info as possible to support my case.
TIA

Linda

Hi,

I was perscribed progesterone by my consultant for the 2nd pregnancy. No tests were done, I believe he perscribed them, because my first pregnancy was a miscarriage. It was not a medically assisted conception either. If they are not willing to do the test under NHS, ask them if they would consider doing the test, if you are willing to pay for it privately.Blood tests should not be that expensive.

Please don't worry.
Congradulations, and wish you a happy pregnancy.

Congratulations on your pregnancy. My first pg ended in m/c and I asked when I went to the consultant at the fertility clinic I asked about prog supplements. He says they don't do that in the UK. He claimed that it can virilise girl babies. I don't know about that, but given the number of US cysters on it it seems unlikely. Anyway he wasn't prepared to test and in this pg I've been pretty much on my own. I'm not sure if the Clomid has an effect on prog.
However, just because you have pcos doesn't necessarily mean your prog levels will be low. Try to think positive.

Thanks Deeds and Gloria

I guess you just read stuff, and think, oh my goodness, what if my levels are low, and I'm sat here doin' squat about it when I could have a simple blood test and take some drug to stop a possible m/c. I hear you though Deeds, and I am thinking positive and willing this little chicken to grow and grow!!
