Default Help raise the Adoption Tax Credit to $15,000

Not sure if you have all done this already, a lot of people did last year. If not, get some letters out to your local politicians. Samples can be found at this website.

I kind of have mixed feelings about this increase. In theory it seems like a good idea to get extra help but a friend of mine who is politically active in the adoption world said that when they increased the tax credit the last time the agency fees & facillitator fees also increased so it didn't really make an impact on making adoption more affordable.

It makes me think that maybe they need to somehow cap fees or regulate the fees in some way that agencies, attorney's and facillitators can charge AND definitely come to some UNITED decision on birthmother living expenses. I think there should be some NATIONAL rules about adoption costs, but I'm not sure how that would work.

One thing is for sure... IT IS EXPENSIVE! We have been paying two agencies, and birthmother living expenses for the past 4 months and have 3 more months to pay and if she changes her mind after all of this it would make starting all over again VERY difficult emotionally and financially. So I just pray it all goes well.

Julia,

Thanks for sharing that. That really sucks that they would raise their rates only because adoptive parents are now eligible for more of a tax credit. Wow, that sounds really shady.

I agree that maybe regulating fees is the way to go. If only they could.

It is so expensive, and I wish it was more affordable so that more people could consider adoption as a viable option to become a parent.
