Hi cysters,
I haven't written in quite a while.Since then,I have had 4 fetal losses. My son was born prematurely at 23&3 because of an incompetent cervix.I have had 3 miscarriages after that and we are stil trying to find the cause(s).My return apt with my RE/GYN is May 16th.We are leaning towards luteal phase defect.Has anyone had good success with progesterone supplementation.I am able to o with metformin every month.I am also concerned about bleeding after a saline infusion ultrasound.I don't think i still should be having cramps and light bleeding ...it's been 4 days......worried the gyn could have somehow niked me by accident.Anybody?I am on antibiotics because I am prone to infections. Also, any words of encouragements re cerclage would so help me.I am such a basket case and cry every day....Please help!

I don't know much about cerclages, but I wanted to say how sorry I am that you are going through this, I can't imagine how much pain you must be in. I have heard of many cysters carrying babies to full term with a cerclage after experiencing a loss due to IC, and many people have had success with prog. supplementation. Is your dr meeting your needs? Testing everything that needs to be done? If not, I would find a new one, with my dd I drove almost 3 hours each way to go to a good dr. It was obviously worth it, I could trust everything he said. GL to you and I hope you are holding a little one soon!
Julie

HI, I too have an incompetent cervix. After we lost a baby in my 2nd trimester. I now get cerclages with each preganacy @ 12 weeks. I take progesterone each pregnancy. I have to use clomid, estorgen and I take 2000mg glucophage too. I am trying to concieve #8. I have 2 adopted and birthed 5 and have had many m/c. But I can tell you it's all worth it. Which is why I'm ttc #8. THe cerclage is no big deal, 1 day of lying around after they do it, and they just take it out when you go into labor. I deliver all mine vaginally. The one nice thing about an incompetent cervix is taht when you do deliver, you won't have to push and you dialte VERY quickly. Once I hit 4 cm I deliver in @ 5 minutes!! I hope you will continue trying, I know it's so hard, and the losses are so painful, It was my 4 the baby i carried to term. The first 3 m/c were hard, and I wondered if I would ever get to hold a baby. But you just have to pray and hang on. I've been doing clomid for 4 cycles this time, and I'm on af now, and getting discouraged, but I know God is good and I will get pregant again, and have 1 more. I'm thinking of you, and if you need anything, I'm here. Valerie
So sorry that you have had to go through so much loss. Just wanted to tell you that a friend of mine who had recurrent mc due to low prog had great luck using met and prog supplements. I will send prayers your way.
TY so much lady bug....you are so encouraging...I am not giving up!!!!And yes I have had recurrent loss testing....all is normal except for the progesterone.WE havn't got the results yet from chromosome testing...it takes a while. Thanks to all those of you who replied and who are praying for me.

((SOYA)). I'm sorry about your babies. I know it's hard to make it through each loss. Our mod, SheriKCMO, recently had a full-term baby after IC and a M/C. There are several women here who've gone on to have successful later pregnancies after losses.
My doc (and all of my research, since I'll never 100% trust a doc again), says that early cerclages are 85-90% successful at getting women to full-term. And of the "unsuccessful" percentage - the other 10-15%, the vast majority survive (the cerclage keeps them in there just long enough). So don't give up hope, okay?
((HUGS))
ETA: I took Prometrium vaginally throughout my first trimester. Ask your doc (if s/he isn't high risk, you might consider switching) about progesterone supplementation through the second trimester, too. It doesn't hurt the baby, but I suspect nobody's yet "found" the link between IC and low progesterone. At the least, please insist on regular progesterone checks after your cerclage is placed.
And insist on staying on met at least through the first trimester (longer if your doc will let you). Again, it doesn't hurt the baby. But, since there HAS to be a hormonal link to IC (researchers, please get busy), and met helps regulate hormones, it may help.

Our little ones were within a week of each other in gestational age... so painful! The cerclage placed at 13 weeks worked like a charm for me as it does for most moms like us. One day they'll figure out the hormonal reason this is happening so that we might not need the stitch, but until then, bring it on. I wouldn't dare chance a pregnancy without one.
I lost my second one at five weeks as well, and it was absolutely draining of all hope for me. I can't believe you've gone on to have two more early losses! You've been through so much, I really am terribly sorry. One of these days... I really hope that things work out for you and your husband.
Meanwhile, I wish you peace. Please stick around here. We'll be listening and sharing, anytime you want to vent, etc.
