Default HELP!!!! Threw my back out!!!!!

Well, I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone and what to do.

Yesterday I was on my knees picking up some garbage off the floor.. (stupid dog!!) and there was this aweful pain in my back and now I'm basically flat on my back and having to use a cain to walk.. what should I do?? Has this happened to anyone else and how long did it take to get better? I can't even go to work and I really need to.

Any advice would be great! Thanks

Connie

My doc prescribed muscle relaxers for me. They really make me drowsy though. if I dont' take one, the pain is usually really bad for 2 days, then gets better gradually for over a week. The first few times I threw my back out, it only lasted a day or so. Now if I take the pills, it's a lot better by the next day.

Some icy/hot linements are good for this. I've had a bad time with my back this week, and the linement really did help.

The best thing to do is to take an antiinflamatory over the counter should do. Put ice on your back for 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off. Also having someone massage your back lighly can improve your circulation as well. It only needs to be a slight rub no deep tissue message. It is also good to get up every once in a while and try to walk even if it is with a cain. I have had major back problems and this is what the docs prescribed to me when I throw my back out or when my aunt through hers out. It takes time to heal so rest rest rest. Hope this helps!!!

Connie, sorry to hear this. I messed up my lower back really, really bad a few months ago, now I see a chiropractor because it still acts up, but if you're in that much pain-obviously a chiro is a definate word you don't even want to hear! Not sure of you can get it, but there's a gel-based linement called Sombra, it has aloe vera in it, so it won't irritate your skin or ruin your clothes. Maybe you can find some where you're at. Also sometimes heat or cold helps, everyone's different, heat helps me more than ice, only because when my chiro does the ultrasound on my lower back--the heat relaxes the pain and really moistens the area of the pain. I take Vicodin for it sometimes, but I agree, an OTC anti-inflammatory is much better-not addictive. Flexeril also helps me, but I try to stay away from prescriptions medications if I can. Maybe you can see a physical therapist and get somelight massage to produce quicker healing.
Just some thoughts.
Hope you're resting and feel better soon
