Default Help with Values on Blood Glucose System

Hello there

I have an Accu-Chek Advantage II Blood Glucose Meter and read some of the posts on "normal" ranges. However, (okay forgive me if I am a little dense here) I read in a previous post that normal is anything from about 90-130. However my meter measures in mmol/L and gave me a reading of 4.4.

I have not been diagnosed as diabetic but I do have IR and wanted to test my levels myself. However, I have simply managed to confuse myself.

I have been following a very low carb plan and have been testing for ketones, which today did show slightly positive.

Can anyone help?

In Canada we also use mmol/L.
I think I read somewhere that you divide the mg/dL by 19.

So the range you are talking about (90-130) is roughly 4.7 - 6.8.
My doc gave me the following levels for fasting:

Anything below 6.0 is fine.
6.0 - 7.0 is borderline diabetic
7.0 is diabetic.

4.4 is normal! That is what I usually come in as. I know with my monitor(freestyle) you can change between the 2 standards of readings mmol/l or the other(can't think right now).....Check your instruction guide and it should tell you how to switch to the type of reading you want!

THANK YOU BOTH!!!!

Unfortunately this meter does not seem to show any other kind of reading; though in the chemist they told me it did

I had tested before eating - so I shall test afterwards as well to compare, but I have been keeping a food journal and testing for ketones so I just wanted to test with a meter for more accurate readings of what was going on with my body!!!

Okay, I'm here again!

I tested before eating - 4.4
two hours after eating it is 7.1

(about 84 and 135?)

I can see I have to do some more reading on this!

Maddy,

This page might help.

In the beginning it's hard becasue all of the values that are stated for "normal" are in the "US" readings. You'll get used to it and know both systems soon enough but in the mean time, the page above might help.
