I am trying to follow the low gi diet but am thin and could do with putting a bit more weight on.
My current eating plan for 1 day is: 8.30am all bran with seeds and blueberries on top. 1 x muller light yoghurt
10.30am 1 half of a cheese and ham sandwich (so 1 slice burgen soya and linseed bread)
12.30 another half sandwich
2.30pm another half sandwich
4.30pm another half sandwich
7pm dinner - normally fish/meat with either new potatoes, sweet potato, lentils or quinoa
10pm muller light yoghurt or a home made low gi dessert.
my skin still seems to get quite oily so am i doing something wrong here? still too many carbs? Do i need to give it more time? Or perhaps I need to exercise more? I started 1000mg of metformin 1 week ago also. Perhaps I need to up the dose of that?
Also just to add - i am splitting my sandwiches like that so as my blood sugar levels remain constant as I've heard little and often is the best approach.
I can't help on the 'putting on weight' part (I can 'think' about brownies and gain), but you might want to build your diet from a solid nutritional foundation:
- Lots of veggies (other than potatoes)
- Good protein
- Good Fats
Once you have that base, you might want to talk to your doctor about getting a referral to a dietician about how to add extra healthy calories so that you can put on weight.
Also, what kind of weight do you need to gain? Lean mass?
If that's the case, you'll need to pick up some weights. (and you might have to adjust your diet a bit more. Those of us at FitCysters doing the ChaLEAN Extreme strength training system all had to adjust our diets.)
If your bodyfat is currently too low, a nutritionist can help with the best way to simply 'gain weight.'
Either way, however, you should probably exercise. Even thin cysters can have the dangerous 'visceral fat' surrounding their organs.

I've actually started seeing a dietician to see what exactly i can/cannot eat b/c my endo doctor told me to stay away from starch and sugar. which of course if you can imagine is extremely HARD! haha...i'm a small girl to begin with and i lost 4 lbs in two weeks which is not good. one advice i can give you in gaining weight would be to up your calories. it's hard and you feel like you're constantly eating but i do see the benefits right away. i no longer have the high and low sugar swings anymore.
but if you have any other concerns in gaining weight i recommend seeing a licensed dietician about it.
