Default HELP! What do I do with my crazy hair? (pics included)

Ladies,
I have very kinky long curly hair and I am sick to death of it. I want to chop it all off because it's too hard to take care of and I just don't have the 45 minutes a day it takes to comb, wash, re-comb, style, and dry it. I have a husband on the other hand who really doesn't like short hair. I just don't know what to do.

Is there "trick" to managing this type of hair? Is there a particular cut that would look good?

I am so jelous of those women who can get all different cuts and styles and just add a little product and have it look awesome. I just don't like mine

Any advice or recommendations welcome!

I might recommend trying a book from barnes and Noble called Curly Girl. It talks about how to care for curly hair easier and to make it look prettier. I think according to this book it actually takes more time to care for straight hair than curly hair! Anyhow when I have known a few girls to follow this book and you can see the difference in how it affects their hair.

I personally don't have curly hair so i have no other advice than that book.

hi!! I can not relate specifically but my sister has hair just like that!!! She ended up just having it straightened at a salon with a chemical and cropped it above her shoulders and layered. It looks great and it lasts a while. Just a thought!!!!

My hair is like that, well it was until I got an anti-curl and fudged it all up. If I had known then what I do now, I would have left it alone. People pay a lot of money for curls like that!

Any how , I still do have most my curls and it is still on the longer side. Use some type of frizz stuff. Got2be has something you can use, can't remember the name. You can use that when you want the straight look along with a flat iron.

If you want softer, more natural appearing curls try infusim 23 leave in conditioner and some type of frizz control with shine. Dry on low with a diffuser.

My hair is similar but just plain messy. I don't have nice defined curls like that, but that's probably what my hair would look like if I did!

I just straighten it. I use a round brush with a blowdryer built in and then a flat iron, and I only wash it once or twice a week. I tried relaxing my hair once and it didn't work that well, besides, I know someone whose hair fell out because she used a chemical relaxer and it didn't mix with her medication.

I have the total opposite problem....I have incredibly fine, thin, straight hair with absolutely zero body in it whatsoever. Grass is always greener!

Have you tried having a good hairdresser just thin it out a bit and take about a foot off it and go with long layers? Then for styling you'd want some product to control frizz and then some mousse and then just let it air dry as much as possible, or make sure to use a diffuser on the hair dryer.

I have a cousin with hair like yours, only black. She looked best, I think, when she got a shoulder length bob cut.

I have the same hair as you & find it so time consuming too. I always say I have high maintenance hair & I'm not high maintenance - lol. I only wash it occasionally (no more than once a week), use lots of conditioner & a conditioning mousse.

Occasionally I straighten but it takes so long & doesn't last through my workouts so well. I did chemically straighten it at one point but it is very expensive & I got lots of breakage - plus it looked really strange when it grew out.

One of my good friends has hair exactly like yours, super thick, super curly and super long. A while back and went and had it thinned out (layered) and she said it was so much easier to manage. She really didn't lose any length, just the layers were added to help thin it out. My hair use to be super long...and it is way thick, but bone straight. I was always jealous of people with curly hair cause even though mine is thick it is so silky I can't do anything with it. I ended up chopping it all off. I don't think my boyfriend was too happy, but I'm the one who cares for it everyday, so I am gonna wear it the way I want. Just remember, he isn't the one who has to deal with it all the time

I only wish I had hair like yours! Like someone mentioned before though.... "the grass is always greener"... I have baby fine sort of wavy hair, but if I don't layer, layer, layer it is just flat on my head! Good luck and please post new pics if you make a change!

You have the hair I am trying to grow!!!! Mine is natural curl, very thick and has been thru it all. I did chemical straightening, super short cuts, hours with a round brush and flat iron. Finally let it come in natural, and use Biosilk oil on it. I only wash twice a week, and let air dry. Good luck with whatever you decide.

You do have beautiful hair, but I understand how you can get sick of it. It's especially hot to wear it down all the time I know! Mine is the same way, except it is really frizzy on the sides. I've been trying to grow it past my shoulders for years, but it just curls up tougher and frizzes out and gets wider.

I'm gonna check out that Curly Girl book.

I don't have hair like you, but I have a husband like you. My hair is long, straight, fine and thick and most days I can't stand it. SO, I have decided to cut it to my shoulders shortly after Thanksgiving. My DH loves that I have long hair, but I have been warning him for about 2 weeks now that after Thanksgiving, it's CHOP CHOP!!! Maybe your DH would warm up to the idea of you having shorter hair.

OR you could just go cut it. If you don't like it (or he doesn't), the wonderful thing about hair is that it WILL grow back. Also, I noticed in your siggy that your DH will be leaving for deployment soon. You could just wait until he leaves and then cut it. Send him pictures of you with short hair and maybe he'll get used to it.

Don't know if anything I said helped, but know that you are not alone!

Oh yeah I wanted to add, many girls mentioned getting your hair thinned out, which may work for you. I used to get mine thinned out as well. Because it gets to the point where it's so thick I can not brush it at all. Well I can, it just literally takes an hour to get through it without breaking my hair. I don't get my hair thinned out anymore because as it grows back in, the hairs that were cut in the process stick out and makes frizz worse.

I instead purchase a Matrix deep conditioner and leave it in my hair overnight when my hair starts getting really dry and hard to manage. It cures my problems.

I still wish my sides didn't get frizzy or I'd wear it down more. Even if I glob gel on it, one side always gets poofy and the other behaves.
