Question Help with Wild Yam please

Hi ladies...I hope everyone is okay.
I have a question or two and I hope some one can help me.
I have been on Metformin 1500mg for almost eight months and for the last two months I was also on Clomid 100mg with no effect.
I asked my doc could I try some extra progesterone to help thicken my lining....I dunno if its thin but the af these days is so light and normally it isnt so she has prescribed Cyclogest from cd14-26...mainly just to see what happens, she wanted to send me on to injections and full monitoring but I asked her to give me more time on Clomid so I am staying on it for the four month wait til I see her again (I dont have monitoring in between though).
My question is I recently bought some Mexican Wild Yam as I heard its good for balancing womens hormones...my main question is what part of the cycle should I be taking them....cd1 and through the whole cycle? and also as Im taking these should I still use the Cyclogest pessaries? My doc only has me on them for the first two months so I know theyre just a sorta experiment....so should I bother with them or just take the Mexican Wild Yam?
Are there any kind of side effects I can expect with the Wild Yam?
Any help would be grately appreciated xx
Thanks in advance x
Stephanie xx

Two things...I am not a professional so just guessing here and also I wasn't sure whether you are still taking meds or just that you have in the past? I would personally be hesitant to use meds with wild yam because my research describes wild yam as a liver tonic among other things. I would be concerned about the liver become healthier and cleansing your body of the meds before they can do fully what they need. Now if you are not on any meds then I think Wild Yam could help you. I am not familiar with Cyclogest so I don't know which would be better for you. I take wild yam throughout my cycle but some women feel it can delay O if taken pre o so if that concerns you then I would stick to post O. Herbs are often used in conjunction with other herbs because they all work to nourish different areas of your body and in most health situations many body organs can be affected (we all know that to be true for PCOS) so you might not get the best results using it alone. A friend on another board recommends a great women's herbal combo called Female Harmony. It is available through Crystal Star and has herbs for the liver, the repro system, hormone balancing and general health. You might want to look into something like that along with the wild yam. Herbs do tend to take awhile to work and there are sometimes cleansing type side effects -headaches, nausea, acne, maybe menstrual changes.
Hope something here helps you. There are lots of good books available on the subject of herbs for women's health if you are interested.
