Default Helping my Dr. give a talk on PCOS- any suggestions

On Monday I'll be helping my doctor (well she's my doctor in the clinical trial I'm doing) give a talk to med students/residents on PCOS.

I'm basically the human prop for it, to help put a face as it were on PCOS for them. I'll get to tell them about myself in regards to PCOS and the stuff that goes along with it. My doctor will have a couple of them interview me in regards to what symptoms I have and then they will have to say what they would have done for me in that situation. We did the same thing last semester to a different group of students. It went over really well.

I know my doctor will give me time to talk to them, so is there anything that any of you would really like me to bring up to them about PCOS or anything related to it?

What a wonderful thing to do!!!!! I think just you talking to them is great, even though PCOS is more widely known, now, people, docs included, still don't really understand it. The only thing I can think to add for these docs is to be sensitive to a women with PCOS. I hope your talk goes well.

This sounds like a great opportunity!

I would tell them to not forget about the word "syndrome" in this disorder, keeping in mind that several things are going on at once with the patient, both physically and emotionally. And to not be too reluctant to tackle them, because of their complexity. This is a "pan-endocrine" disorder, so don't hesitate to do a little more research when some things aren't spelled out like in the medical book. We all know doctors aren't perfect, so cut the act .

Hope you enjoy your interviews!

Talking I wish we could all do this!

Since most of us probubly will never get a chance to do this. please tell them that not all woman with PCOS fit the Text book mold. It took 12 years and countless doctors before I was finally diagnosed because I didn't fit the classic PCOS discription.

Good luck I hope you can get through to them.

I wish I'd seen this message sooner. I would've suggested telling them that being heard is extremely important. Sure, hair loss is important...but if your doctor ignores you, it makes it worse.
