Hello. Sorry to hear about DH's situation. I've heard that St. John's Wort is good for depression issues. If you are TTC, research it more deeply, because I believe when a female takes it, it can be bad for the baby if she is PG.

I would urge him to go to the doctor as if it is as you describe major depression herbs are not going to help.
I know it's hard and scarey to go for help, maybe you can offer to go with him.
come over to the depression forum, there is alot of great info there!

A friend of mine who took Wellbutrin for depression switched to a natural supplement containing magnolia. I don't know which part but she gets it at the health food store. Google Dr.Weil.com and see if he has anything on this. He's a great reference.

Well, he did go to the dr and he has been dg with Bipolar disorder. His mother had this and it is past through family. Anyway, they put him on a medicine for it and it seems it has made it worse. When he takes it, (He has only taken it once.) he stays EXTREMELY MAD!!!!! So, He is going to have to go back I guess. Tina

Sometimes those medications take a while to kick in...I'd recommend that he stick with it for a few weeks and then re-assess the situation. Good luck to you.
I agree about the meds taking a while to kick in. It took wellbutrin a while to kick in for me, whereas paxil never worked. Double check with the doc about side effects. Especially with bipolar it's important to be on something to control it.
Hope things go better for you soon. Hugs, Liz

I did call the doctors office and told them that he was wanting to fight just off of one pill. They told me that wasn't right and he shouldn't take anymore. It was suppost to mellow him out. lol. It did the opposite. He has an appointment with the doctor this Tuesday. I hope they find something that works better for him. Off that one pill, he was VERY unpredictable. Scary really. I didn't want to be any where around him. thanks for your reply's.
