Ever since I was little I have loved bananas but every time I eat one they hurt my back. It's like the muscles in my back get all tight. It happens when I eat other types of fruit too. My mom can't get over it, it like amazes her or something LOL. Anyways, it doesn't stop me from eating bananas or the other fruit that does it but I have always wondered what exactly it was that caused it. I've never been to a doctor about it, it's not that bad.
Anyone wanna take a jab at what it might be or has anyone had this themselves?

Hmmm. That does sound kind of weird, but the reason I'm posting is that I have a strange reaction to bananas too. Even if I just have a smoothie with liquid bananas in it the top of my mouth breaks out in sores. I don't think it's an allergy, but it's annoying.
I hope you find out something, I do'nt have any problems eating other kinds of fruit. maybe you have a sensitivity or allergy or something?
I don't know if this is it but I know that bananas are high in potassium. Your body needs potassium to keep your muscles strong. Maybe you are getting a muscle reaction from the potassium?
Wow... that is a weird one.. No offence to the OP lol but I've never heard of that before.
What other fruits does this happen with? Do you have muscle cramping? Especially in your legs? How long after you eat it does this begin?
I think Pooks was heading in the right with the potassium. Your muscles contract by reversing an artificial sodium/potassium imbalance (sodium on the outside, potassium on the inside - when the muscle gets the message to contract, the imbalance switches) so if you're having other symptoms such as leg cramps or twitching, that may be it. Have you ever had your potassium level tested? It may be part of the routine blood testing your doctor has done, you should ask next time you have blood work done.

The gas they use to ripen bananas and other fruits can cause massive problems. I am in no way a health nut, lol, but the banana thing caused big problems for DH. Here is a link:
Wow...I never knew any of this! Jashobeam--do they use that stuff on organic bananas too? Maybe that would be a possibility for people with this problem.

From what I understand organic bananas woudln't be gassed to ripen. The best bet would be to only buy your bananas from a Farmer's Market where the bananas are grown locally and only buy them in season.
