Wink Here are some BCP PCOSers are to take.

According to Dr.Vliet in her book Women, Weight and Hormones.

Birth Contro pills using less than 1mg og norethindrone(or equivalent) with 30 to 35 mcg of ethinyl estradiol are the ones thta are less likey to overstimulate your appetite and contribute to weight gain.
Ovcon 35, Modicon, Necon, Ortho-Cept, and Ortho-Cyclen.
Higer Progestin pills such as Alesse, Mircette. Lostrin, and others are more likely to cause weight gain.

but they have proven that birth control pills do NOT cause weight gain. it's an individual thing but on average there is no weight gain.

I understood that BCPs do not in themselves cause weight gain but CAN cause your appetite to increase... which can have the same effect!

That is why it was written that it stimulates the appetite and that contributes weight gain. I never wrote that the pill makes you just gain weight. Please read before you write...

Thumbs down

then please be clear in your writing

you said
Quote:

which is saying they CAUSE weight gain and not thru an increase appetite. I see you stated it above but you are not consistent and I paid more attention to the last line.

Then use your common sense then..I said that it causes weight b/c it increases the appetite...I wouldn't think I have to write it twice.

What about Yasmin? Does the book mention whether it increases appetite or not?

It doesn't mention it but it does mention Diane 35...I think it's similar.

Alliance i do have a question do it mention anything about those pills and depression in women with pcos, i know i've been on 3 different bcp, one ot fhtme was ortho trycyclen, one was norqd, and the other was lo estin 1/20 all three caused me such sever mood swings and depression it wasn't funny.. the last one, was so bad i refused to back on bcps because of it.

Told the dr get me off these pills before you have a dead pacient on yours hands.

I was pulled off of them emedatily...

blessed be

Yes..it can cause severe depression if you are on the wrong BCP. Believe I've been there. Try the ones I suggested(if you can) and see if they work for you...remember it takes 3-4 months to see a difference. If they don't work it maybe you are too sensitive. Also try the Patch.

Alliance

You suggested the patch, i was thinking about that the other day and when i go back in June. Will they put women who are over weight, in excess of 200lbs, on the patch. I was told by kaiser that they wouldn't put me on it because of the fact i was over 198 and it wouldn't work for me..........I now have to question that statement as they missed for 4 yrs the pcos, yet i show a large amount of classic signs...

blessed be
