Both my mother, grand mother and great grand mother suffered from PCO, and unfortunately all three of them had to have a complete hysterectomy at around the age of 35.
Does that mean it's going to happen to me too?
I mean i'm 26 this year, only just been diagnosied, have been trying for a baby for 1 year, if I have to follow the same road as them it means I have 9 years to do the impossible in, as I owuld love to have 2 children, I have to retutn to my endo in a month and a half as he has just upped my thyroid pills, and wants to put that right and then start on my PCO's, but how much time will he need?
Is there anyone else who has PCO's in their family history? Do I need to start dedicating all my time? Is it really me against the clock?

Is there anyone out there who has experienced what I am, have any of your mothers or grandparents had PCOs?? Are you experiencing exactly the same as them? Will I pass it on to my daughter if I have one??

While PCOS is hereditary, there is no certainty that you will follow the same route as the other women in your family. Firstly time is on your side as since your great-grandmother was of that age there have been so many advances in medicine. Plus it's well known that doctors used to have the have the attitude that if a woman had "problems with her periods" as soon as she was done having kids they'd whip out her uterus, as it was the easy option.
Secondly, you are young and have an early diagnosis. It has shown that the earlier your diagnoses, the easier it is to work towards fixing the problems.
Keep your chin up girl - keep hassling your doctors etc until they give you answers and help you. There are good docs out there!
Thanks for that, and what your saying is so true. I don't feel so young though, I seriously feel that it's me against the clock. I mean it seems that so many of you have been trying for baby's for years!!! Ok, i'm 26, but I want (sound like a spoilt child) at least two children, and well before I'm 35 if I can help it. I just don't want to risk arriving at 35 and having to have it all out.
I need to have patience, but am constantly thinking about it, when I go to bed, when I wake up, it's always in my head, the fact that maybe I can't have kids, and well it's so depressing............
It's nice to be between you all, having the same experiences and things.

I just found out a couple days ago that my niece (who's only 14) is also going through symptoms that us cysters are. She told me that sometimes she goes a couple months without her period, then it'd kick in again, and be fine for a while...then nothing again for a couple of months. I told her that those are some of the symptoms that I am having with PCOS and I told her, urged her, to talk to her mom (my dear ol' sis) about that and get her into the local women's health center and talk to them about it. I didn't know it was hereditary though? Thanx for the info.
camarofanatic90 - what meds did you start taking? What are your symptoms what with having both of these probs? Thanks for taking the time to answer me.
It seems that my two younger sisters are getting checked out too, one seems in the all clear for now, while the younger who's 17, has a few symptoms, she also suffers from thrush on a regulare basis, is this a symptom??
Thanks again
