Unhappy Hereditary PCOS

Hi, I've suffered with PCOS for nearly 20 years - had twins by IUI 5 years ago and then went on to have another child naturally (!!!!!) two years ago.

My question is: I've already noticed my 5 years old daughter has rather hairy leg, although she does have a wonder svelt figure - what are the chances of her developing PCOS?

ANy advice on what I can do to prevent/lessen effects or what to look out for?

Many thanks

HI

There is research on hereditary PCOS but I doubt that a child of 5 would show any symptoms of it, I would say probably not until puberty.

The Key to avoid/lesson symptoms is diet, so if you make sure she eats healthy you could control it IF she actually has it anyway

But good for you in keeping your eye on her, at least you will be experienced in helping her to control it.

we have given up trying for a baby, after years of putting our life on hold and focusing on nothing else we now have our lives back and we are happy again.

most kids have excess hair while they are little, my neice has it on her back !! but it disappears as they get older.
However I did read somewhere that you are born with PCOS, but who knows the dr's aren't even sure why some women have it and others don't.

I know nothing about this, but I'm going to throw some ideas out there anyway! I'm convinced that my v. poor, carb-and-alcohol-rich diet while I was at university tipped my pcos over the edge, although I've had bad skin/hairiness/irregular periods for as long as I can remember. I think that teaching children really good, healthy eating strategies will protect them in the future - ie only wholewheat and healthy carbs, good balance, lots of veg etc - all those things that we find so hard now.

Easier said than done I suppose, but i'm going to try!
