Smile Hey Girls!

hi, im new to this forum, i want to say a big thank you to all of you for making me feel normal. (its been a long time) Basically ive been suffering with excess hair for a long time, i have it everywhere you mention although facially its not too bad, i think im quite lucky in the fact it hasnt got bad enough to shave just abit of light plucking now and again, my cousin brought up in a suttle way, that the hair on my upper lip was quite dark (i was 13!), i have very dark hair and my dad is like some sort of gorilla!
she suffers from PCOS quite serverly, and it courses her a great deal of discomfort, but i never dreamed id find myself in the same situation.
My problem has been actually convincing my doctor i have a problem, do you think this could be PCOS?
* excess hair - back, chest, bum *blush*, upper legs ~ the back right up to the bottom of my bum and its quite thick and black and very difficult to shave, my pubic area isnt too bad but i think ive always dealt with it so i dont notice, my belly etc..
* periods - quite hard to describe right now because ive had a contraceptive implant for over a year now, my periods should have balanced out by now, but still very irregular.
* sex drive - can hit rock bottom alot, this upsets me because im in a very loving relationship with my partner.
* downers - somedays i feel so blue, put this down to being a woman though!
* tiredness - this is my abolute worst thing almost joint with hair!
i cant get enough sleep!
*diabetes - im worried about this because most of my dads side of the family had it, ive brought it up with my doctor but he sort of shrugged it off.

phew! so as you can see im abit of a mess right now. i thought id bring this to you guys as the hair thing is the biggest stress in my life, im going for the holiday of a lifetime to cuba next year and dont want to have to deal with this hair! and getting married the year after! luckily my man is one in a million and understands and knows all about the hair! but i just want to be silky smooth! arghhh its so annoying!

thank you for any advice xx
:p

Welcome to SoulCysters!!

You mention that you're having to 'convince' your doctor? What does s/he think the issue is?

I'd find a new doc. One that is knowledgable. Also, you should learn as much as possible about PCOS. You have come to the right place. This site has TONS of great info!!!!!!!!!

Smile

The doctor just seemed to put it down to the fact that i was a growing teenager! and my hormones were changing, i couldnt believe what i was hearing at the time, i just wanted to be told something was wrong and that something could be done about this, id always struggled with it from an early age 13 onwards, it caused to much pain in my life id always be the one struggling in the changing room doing physical ed, or comments from friends that i had a hairy lower back, which now as i look back wasnt too bad, now after trying to get rid of the problem with shaving and waxing i made it worse!
ive taken your advice and today registered with a new doctor, and hope to see a doctor soon! and hopefully be taken seriously.
i had diabetes ruled out today which was a great relief!
But i cant thank my other half more, for how much he has helped me come to terms with this, i broke down in tears telling him because i'd hid it from everyone for aslong as i realised i'd had it, i wanted to be able to feel comfortable when he sees me naked, and i knew he was sticking around forever so i had to take that leap and confess why i never showed my bum! its so embarassing just to admit i have it. but everyone here has opened my eyes.

thanks xx
