Hi to you all,
I've just been viewing some of the newbie threads and found this UK/Irish specific. I've recently been diagnosed and today had a consultation with a gynacologist who basically was no help whatsoever. I am following the GI diet and exercise alot, but cannot shift my weight and taking minocycline for acne but still get obscene craters on my face!
I thought i might be prescribed metformin, but this was refused me because i'm not ttc, now feel like i'm stuck in a rut. Would love to hear from you to find out if you have any advice.
Cheers!
I was prescribed Metformin to help with my IR. Did they check your blood & stuff to check that you weren't IR?
Where abouts in the UK are you? Maybe someone can recommend you another doctor if you're not happy with your current one.
I hope you can find lots of help and advice on SC to help. If anything, arm yourself with all the info you can and go back and hit your specialist with it all x

thanks to you all for your comments and support. I have now made another appointment with my gp to discuss what the gyna said and will make sure i'm armed with information to throw at him to try to twist his arm to helping me! : )
Just wanted to say thanks to all of you who posted to me when i just joined the forum. i saw my gp again yesterday and went armed with information. he listened to me which is more than my gyna did, admitted he didn't know much about treatments such as metformin, but said he would investigate and either suggest metformin or me going back on dianette. now feeling much more positive that at least he's trying to help me. if it wasn't for you guys i wouldn't have pushed it, so thanks again!!!
Glad your GP seems more interested in trying to help now, hopefully in turn this will maybe lead to him helping others if he is looking into it further! x

This site is the best place I've ever found for information - by sharing experiences, we are better prepared to make suggestions to doctors. Your doctor sounds great by saying that he'll look into it. I really recommend Metformin - I've been on it for 4 years and it has transformed my life.
All the best honey - and remember, your SC are always here for you.
