Default hey. i thought id introduce myself

hey my name is sam. i just turned 18 on the 6th april. i was diagnosed with pcos in november 2008. i have mild hertiosm (geez i can never spell it LOL) way above normal testosterone levels... thats pretty much it. i had nearly 30 on my right ovary and above 50 on my left and i dont have insulin resistance.

i think the doctors ive had are ridiculous. one seemed like he had no idea what he was talking about and just stuck me on the pill and the other said il be fine, the hair aint bad so just come back when i start trying to concieve and he will give me something to help. i am in the process of finding a doc who is an expert in pcos just so i can feel i have gotten good answers.

in aus after the first ultrasound you are meant to have one 6 weeks later to see if they got better or worse... i have only had one. when i said this to the last doc he said no you will be fine it isnt necessary.

is this right?

hmm... well thats all i have right now!

look forward to getting to know you all

Hi! My name is Sam too. I'm 20 and was diagnosed in August 2007. Getting diagnosed took me three years and 80 pounds, so I completely understand the frustration you have with your doctor. If you don't think that you're getting adequate care, I highly recommend that you switch doctors. Where do you live? There's a thread on the forum where other cysters recommend doctors. I'd suggest you check that out. From my experience with doctors, I'm getting the impression that there is no absolutely standard treatment plan for PCOS due to the variability of symptoms and lack of complete understanding about PCOS's causes. Because of this, it's very easy for treatments to vary in frequency of imaging studies, etc. As long as you have a doctor who is treating you for your hirsutism and testosterone (and any other symptoms you have) and seems to be knowledgeable about PCOS and its treatment, then you should be fine. Good luck!
