I was diagnosed with PCOS in August 2005 after a 7 yrs struggle with my weight/hair loss and excess facial/body hair.
I have the most unsupportive Dr in the world, she prescribed me dianette and metformin and xenical.
I refused the xenical and i tried the metformin for as long as i could, it made me violently sick and fall asleep withing minutes of taking it.
She refered me to a dermatologist for the excess hair/ hairloss and the dermatologist just told me to live with it as there was nothing she could do.
My Dr then told me there was no way i could lose weight without the metformin and diet pills (forgetting that i had previoiusly lost 2 stone without her help) and that i would be infertile and get bigger and bigger.
She refuses to give me the advice i ask for so i have registered myself with a new Dr but i have to wait 6 weeks.
Does anybody on here have any advice on hair loss/excess hair , I am on dianette (my periods are slowly going back to being non-existant and i have excrutiating period pains) and reductil.
I have very bad mood swings which means i get so unbelievably depressed about the whole situation, i have no idea where to turn and how to help myself and i just spend most days sobbing on my Bfs shoulder terrifyed he will notice my slowly balding head and catch me bleaching my beard and stomach hair, also Im terrified of never having children, im so scared please help!
Don't lose hope, Chuckie!!! There are many of us on here who have taken control of our symptoms and made real changes in our lives (with or without meds) and you can too. Knowledge is power!
Suggest you read all the great info on this site and stay in touch...especially Kat Carney's inspirational success story.
Managing this syndrome is trial and error sometimes which can be frustrating, but I hope you will stick with us. You are not alone.
Best of luck,
Sarah

Hi there,
sorry to hear about your doctor mine was very unsupportive too, i kept getting fobbed off that there was nothing wrong until i had an ultrasound.when i got my diagnosis i got handed dianette, told i maybe couldnt have children and would always be a big girland that was my lot. i am about to commecne on metaformin and dreading it!so many women have such a hard time adjusting to it!i can really sympathise honey cos its all very frustrating!you are in the right place for support though. love mel xxx
You have come to the right place for support and information. This site has so many great discussion boards about diet, exercise, metformin, hairloss and everything else we struggle with because of PCOS.

Welcome to SoulCysters! I know that it can be very frustrating working with doctors. My advice is that they are a dime a dozen so get a new one. There is no use wasting time with a doctor who doesn't know what they are talking about. I hope you find some answers here.
