you know what, I'm not even playing. Ok, I'm tired and I am just going to straight up live off of chick, fish, sugar free cookies and jello, veggies and salad. I did this starting at the end of Feb 09. So for March I lost about 3 freaking pounds, and this was with exercising five days a week...I live across from the ymca for God's sake! 3 pounds? Anyway, now since I started taking the Metformin on Apr. 16 it seems like I'm losing faster. Basically I've lost about 6 pounds since the start of my jouney. We shall see...

Default You need a good endocrinologist!

Girl, I would have someone's head if I'm gaining pounds and pounds, growing man hair, and possibly becoming less and less fertile everyday and they want to tell me do nothing? Heads would roll!

I don't know if you've been seeing PCPs or a specialist, but any decent endocrinologist will do your blood work and recommend an appropriate medication for your particular hormone situation.

Common scripts are Metformin and Spironolactone. Also, regular exercise helps to regulate insulin if you're having any secondary problems with insulin resistance (most of us are) carido for 30 minutes a day will help. If you've been missing your period a lot, I've found that the progesterone cream that you can find at herbal medicine or vitamin shops helps too.

Hello Cysters! I know many of you are discouraged but you do have to keep pushing for treatment. If one doctor says 'no', keep going. From 1992-2002 I jumped from doctor to doctor. It was only in 2002 after bleeding heavily for 10 weeks that I finally found a doctor who knew what was going on with my body. Before that, I kept hearing doctors tell me that my periods were irregular because I'm fat and that all I have to do is stop eating so much to lose the weight. I was beyond frustrated and tired of being given BCP. I was 14 and not interested in sex and they couldn't give me a reason why I needed to be on the pill at that time.

Last year, age 30, I started bleeding in early May and did not stop until Februrary of this year. I don't mean spotting but heavy bleeding, clotting, and cramping. Unfortunately, since I'd lost my job and health insurance, I'm single, and I don't have kids, I don't qualify for public assistance and the women's clinic will not see me. I went to a new doctor in February, a woman, someone I thought would care and she told me the bleeding would stop sporadically. She was uncaring and offered no assistance. It wasn't until I was referred to a male gynecologist that someone actually wanted to help me. I'm back on BCP for about 6 months to control the bleeding and hope I can began TTC again after that.

I'm 31, 320lbs, and sick of the roller coaster ride but I'm encouraged by all the research I've been able to do on my own. If anyone needs to be encouraged by knowing they aren't going through all these symptoms alone, feel free to talk to me. I've had the acne, balding, dandruff, extreme periods of weight gain with no change in diet, depression, infertility, unbearable cramps, excessive hair, anemia, etc. For those wondering about weight loss, I was on Yasmin (not Yaz) for 3 years and that was the only time I was successfully able to lose weight without changing my diet or activity level. I wish I could afford it now.

hey sistahs, im trying out an alternative remedy for pcos called d-chiro-inositol. read about it at chiralbalance dot com. (sorry i can't post hyperlinks until i post more often)

there is also a thread on this site about it under "alternative remedies."

i started my cycle when i was 9. it was regular until i was 17. then i gained about 50+ pounds and found out i had pcos. im trying to lose it now as well as have a regular menstrual cycle.

it's not easy, but it can be done so keep going and stay strong!

im also taking choline and chromium to help.
