Decided it was time to join here.
I got my PCOS dx in May of this year, though I've suspected it for years.
I'm a 35 year old housewife. Dh and I have been married for almost 12 years and have used no birth control in all that time. We were fine with not having children and didn't think we wanted any until last year. As I approached 35 I realized I did want to have a baby.
At first my family doctor wouldn't dx me with PCOS b/c my blood sugar levels always tested normally even though I had almost every other symptom. In April, I went to her again and said, "Look, something is going on with my body. I have this, this, this, this, etc. going on and all point to PCOS. Can you please test my hormone levels?" She did and found elevated testosterone. Referred me to an endo who I saw in May. She was also reluctant to dx me with PCOS b/c of the sugar levels. But finally did after further discussions. She put me on Met at that time.
I saw her again this week and told her I think I'm making some progress. I've lost 14lbs., had a horrid period in July followed 4 weeks later (yay!) by a "normal" one, and I'm showing signs of ovulation. She went ahead and upped my dosage of the Met and told me to keep on doing what I'm doing. I see her again in November.
After years of having my family doctor do my Pap, I finally found an OB/GYN who I see for the first time in a couple of weeks.
So, that's my abbridged yet still quite long, story.
