    Default Hi!

Hi everyone! I'm new to this site, and pretty new to PCOS too. I've been looking around the site and have seen that you all seem very helpful and very supportive, so I was hoping you might try to answer a couple of questions I have.

I was diagnosed with PCOS a few months ago, but due to school, work, and other stressful situations I haven't taken the time to learn as much as I should about PCOS. However, now I figure it's time to start trying to take control. I plan on getting books and reading as much as possible about PCOS.

Anyway, my main question is about met. My dr told me that only people who have the insulin resistance need to take it, and I was wondering if that's true? Is there anyone who does not have insulin resistance but was still prescribed met by their dr? The only thing my dr told me was to take bc to regulate my period, and then someday when I want to have children I may have to take some fertility drugs, but there's not really anything else for it now. It just seems to me that a lot of people seem to be on that, and I want to make sure it's definately something I don't need.

Also, it seems to me that a lot of people have gone to see an endo after getting diagnosed. Do you think this is a good idea for everyone to do? I'm wondering if I should look one up in my area and schedule an appointment for a second opinion and other treatment options.

Anyway, thank you all in advance for any answers you have! And even though this is my first post, I'm already so happy that I found this site! I've read stuff online about PCOS before, and I've done research, but I've already learned so much more just from reading your posts. This really is a very helpful forum.

Hey, welcome to SC. I haven't been using this site for very long but the wealth of information is incredible. There is so much I have learnt from this site alone. Im in the UK and I think we do things slightly different to in the US. So Im sure from that side of the water somebody will post on here. From my point of view Metformin is for the Insulin resistance. But, it has a list of added benefits such as helping with weight loss and unwanted hair. There are lots of side effects, some not so nice and Metformin help that. They also help us when we are trying to concieve. They regulate hormones and generally make us feel better (if you can get past the side effects of the drug - which if you avoid certain foods you will find it easier) Keep reading up on here. Im sure you will find the information that you need. Good Luck x

    Hi Nolita,
Welcome to soul cysters. I am not sure about met for non insulin resistant cysters. I have heard both sides on that. I do think going to an endo and getting complete blood workup done is a good idea. Or did your other Dr. do that?

Thanks for all of your replies! My dr did some tests, but I'm not sure what all. She didn't really explain what the tests were and what the results were...but I know I don't have insulin resistance and my hormones are outta whack. I go back in a month or so though, so I'll ask her what exactly was done for that. And maybe see if she thinks I should see an endo. I've looked stuff up and it looks like I don't need met because I don't really have any of the symptoms now that I'm on BC. Anyway, thanks for all your answers! and I look forward to becoming a part of this forum and learning all I can about this syndrome.
