I have taken a few digital tests that show BFN just in case, before I start the Vitex and Soy. Does anyone know which way i should start this regimen? Do I start the Soy for the first 5 days then add the vitex in? Or do I start the Vitex and wait for AF and then to start Soy when AF goes away?
Yes, you have to wait for AF to start soy...but you'll want to do soy only 5 days .. most women take it cd(cycle day) 3-7; 4-8; or 5-9
On the days they don't take soy, they take the Vitex.
You could definitely start the Vitex now. I don't think it really matters when you start taking it. And even though I wouldn't take it during pregnancy, there are some rather knowledgeable "wise women" or green witches (basically herbalists that really specialize in female care) that recommend taking it during the first trimester if the mother has a history of miscarriage. So it may not be THAT harmful, if at all... I do tend to lean on the side of caution though... I won't even eat anything that has ginger or parsley as a seasoning when I'm in the first trimester...
Also, digi tests, are much less sensitive than alot of the early result tests out there.

Thank you Sammie!

When i had my blood panel done by the naturopath, she did check my thyroid.
She did 'deep' testwork. She does not see that i have any issues.

So, i guess thats a good thing, right?

I don't know what she meant by deep test work, but as long as she checked your TSH levels, and it didn't indicate any failure, then that's definitely a good thing!

I've had a lot of success with vitex, it's made my period semi-regular (every 38 days). I also seemed to lose some weight on it. I stopped taking it because my naturopath told me it could also have a bad effect on the hormones. Does anyone know why?

OregonCyster,
Wow, I'm kind of shocked a naturopath told you that... Its commonly the first herbal remedy/supplement suggested with women who have any hormonal imbalance especially when it affects fertility, etc.
To me that doesn't make sense...Vitex works directly with the pituitary gland, by balancing it. Some respond to it, some don't. If it was working for you then it was doing what its supposed to. The pituitary gland is the "hub" of the endocrine system. Its responsible for transmitting the correct amount, and correct balance of "signals" or "messenger" hormones/chemicals to the other endocrine system organs for them to kick in the right kind of hormones. The best way I can describe it is kind of like a domino affect, with the pituitary gland being responsible for 1) making sure the pattern is correct, and 2) being the catalyst or "finger (if you will)" that knocks over the correct domino.

If it worked for you and you felt it was beneficial for your PCOS and overall health, then I would suggest you have your naturopath discuss specifically what research he/she is basing that judgment on. Also, is your naturopath TRULY versed in treating PCOS? One issue I've personally found with many holistic dr's, or naturopaths, is they in reality know very very little about the many different manifestations of PCOS, and their individual idiosyncrasies. I should also say I've found this to be true of many different health care providers, regardless of the type of medicine they primarily practice.

I haven't read every post on this thread, so sorry if this is redundant.

I've been on the TTC board for 4 months now after being on 4 medicated cycles. I want to regulate my cycle naturally and have started taking Vitex. I also wanted to add Soy on the days I have previously taken Clomid.

Does anyone know first hand if this is safe?

OK nevermind, I just read through these (like a good cyster lol).

I'm on CD 3 and have been taking Vitex since CD1. I'm off to Wally-World to buy my Soy Isoflaves which I will take days 5-9 LESS the Vitex.

Thanks ladies!

I am so glad to have found this thread. I have been taking vitex for a couple of days and I know that it may take a while till anything should happen, but I am excited at the prospect of evening out my cyles. They have been scarce since going off BCP in Jan.

So you guys like the SOY? I am on Day 2 of my cycle. Now I am wondering if I should go out and get me some!?

I am on CD5 and my second day of soy. I'm taking 240mg, as I have been told to take double the dosage of soy as what made you O on Clomid.

I O'd (not well) on 100 mg, so I am taking 240mg of soy.

I'm also taking vitex but still do not have any confirmation that it is OK to take in conjuction with soy. We shall see!

GL ladies...

Sarah,
I haven't seen evidence where it is ok or not ok...
I'm super curious to see what happens.
I've known some women to take it with soy and without soy.
Curious, was your doctor not willing to try Femara w/ you?
Good Luck!

I just started taking cinnamon pills with chromium. Has anyone ever heard of Daily Wellness Fertility Blend for Women? It contains vitex along with vitamin E, Vitamin B6, vitamin B12, Folate, Zinc, selenium, L-arginine, and green tea. I wondered if anyone has ever taken this, and would it be safe to combine with prenatals?
