Curious, was your doctor not willing to try Femara w/ you?
Good Luck!
I think I want to stop taking the Vitex, because I have read more often than not that the Vitex and Soy counter-act eachother. Crap! I better stop taking the Vitex tomorrow!

As far as my doctor, I'm supposed to go in and see him today. 4 failed Clomid rounds and he wants me to do 2 more, but he's also only an OBGYN and NOT monitoring me with B/W or scans. I called them yesterday to tell them I wanted to go on a break, and get refered to an RE. That conversation led to them trying to up my Clomid dosage AGAIN, and convince me to keep trying through them. After all was said and done the advice nurse suggested I come in today and talk to my doctor about where to go from here.

I'm cancelling my appointment. LOL

Just curious...what brands of Soy is everyone buying? I bought a brand by Carlson, soy Isoflavones concentrate...it is kind of confusing on the label though because it reads that each capsule contains 10 mg of soy isoflavones but on the facts chart they say each serviing is 500 mg. I don't understand this contradiction.

I use the Spring Valley 40 mg Soy Isoflavones. I just bought it at WalMart.

A lot of the soy pills I have seen have other ingredients in them and they tend to have higher mgs on the front but much lower amount of the actual soy isoflavones. I have not figured out why that is though.

You actually want to go by the mg of isoflavones for this purpose though. 10mg sounds pretty low-you would be taking at least 8 pills per day!

The other brands, are typically listing total soy mg. What you really want to pay attention is how much soy isoflavones is listed.

okay...so my theory was just proven..lol! I went nuts and bought the pricey ones from the healthfood store and was wrong...lmao! I see that these I bought seem to have some other ingedients in them...and I bet what it means is the whole capsule is 500 mg of the combined ingredients, and only 10 mg of the isoflavones is in each.

Does anyone know how many mg's total of the isoflavones I should be taking to reach the effect? also, my vitex that I am taking, when I look at the bottle, it has many other ingredients in it as well. It is called Vitex, elixer for women, its the liquid, is this the right stuff as well? should Chasteberry tree be the only ingredient in it or is it the combonation that makes it "Vitex"?

Chasteberry Tree is vitex...what other ingredients are in it?
You'd probably want to start at at 80-100 mg of soy isoflavones.

The back of the bottle says Proprietary blend, extracts from Chasteberry tree, partridge berry, cramp bark, red raspberry leaf, blue vervain herb, mugwort leaf, dandelion root and leafe usnea lichen, prickly ash bark, rose hip solid extract syrup of sweet grapes, blend of sea vegatation, spring water, vegatable glycerin. average herb strength ratio 1:1.75

But it is called, the actual front label itself is called Vitex "elixer for women"

Those should all be good. I know a lot of European women drink a tea mixture similar w/ all those same herbs in it.

I went to Wal-Mart last night and talked to the pharmacist, she hated to give me any advice for the soy isoflavones and for what I was taking it for, but she said that the normal dosage is in fact 80 to 120 mg per day, starting out the first time only taking 80 a day to see if I get the results i want. Then next month up it to 120 and so on, not to excede 160 a day without first going to my doctor.

She said the vitex proprietary blend that I am taking is perfect, everything in it is beneficial she said. Strange coming from someone who chemically puts meds together huh?

WOW, I'm shocked she even told you that much! I wish I had a pharmacist around here that I could get a straight answer from. LOL... they are too scared of Dr's. and Legislation around here, as Texas Medical Association (which is primarily MD's) are a HUGE special interest group, and are very much responsible for other HCP not being able to safely do what they normally do in other areas. I say safely, but what I mean is they don't want to be liable for anything.

I have been taken vitex for about 2 weeks and my ovaries were going nuts but no AF. But I was determined to stay on it for 3 months or more. I went to see the RE and he said I should not be taking it as it can affect blood tests and counteract what he wants to do.

Now I don't know what to do - I have heard of so many success stories with it but I don't want to compromise my doctors plans - any advice? Anyone else been told not to take it?

Sorry just wanted to jump in here. I bought my first bottle of vitex last night and started them this morning. I have PCOS and do not get a period unless I take provera. I have a very high tolerance towards any medication, so i'm hoping the vitex works. I'm waiting to go for my 2nd ivf. When I asked my re about taking vitex he wouldn't give me any advice as he has heard to many studies done about it.

Straggle, I would wait and see if your doc's plan will work first. If he says it is messing up his program, then don't do it, till his fails. Just my opinion though.

I know I grew so tired of the money I was spending with failure after failure with my doc and took matters into my own hands this time. But for some, the doc's way is better, just depends on your body.
