hi everyone im a newbie to this site- i could do with some advice :-) am i ovulating?
hi everyone, im new to this so hope im not intruding on here. wondered if anyone could offer me any advice.
ive been off the contraceptive pill for 4 years now, thats how i was diagnosed with pcos cos i didnt get a period for ages!!! my periods was all over the place for ages but the past year ish they vary from 30 to 46 days. would anyone know if this means i am likely to be ovulating??? im taking metformin - have been for the last 6 months and have been actively ttc for last 5 months. is it possible for my pcos to get better??? i know it cant be cured but it seems strange how my periods are much more settled.
im really confused. i think i just want someone to tell me that everything will be ok and i will get my much wanted baby- but i know they cant.
any advice on pcos or ttc with pcos would be great
Getting a period doesn't necessarily imply that you ovulate. Unless you are temperature charting and using OPKs, it's really hard to know if you are Oing. I was on the pill for ten years. I went off of it over two years ago with the hope of conceiving. Nope, didn't happen. I thought my cycles were normal, they were generally 28-34 days. But every now and again, I would skip a cycle randomly. My RE said that I don't O on my own and sometimes, I get a period and sometimes, I don't. I suggest charting your basal body temperature and using OPKs.

you sound just like me! my husband and i stopped using birth control in 2005 and i have NEVER been pregnant. i get my period about every 28 - 60 days. we started charting my bbt in march and found out that i am not ovulating. so we tried soy (a natural way of trying to induce ovulation) for 6 months and then started clomid. i most definitely think you will have a baby! if i were you, i'd start charting so you can see if you ovulate. fertilityfriend.com is really easy and free. then if you aren't ovulating, you can go from there. like taking clomid or soy or whatever you choose to help you ovulate. i'm not on metformin but i've heard it can really help with pcos symptoms, maybe it just takes awhile. i would imagine that it does. anyway you are lucky because atleast you do get your period on your own. now you just have to work on catching that egg! keep your head up, you have every reason to be hopeful. good luck!

It's true having your menstrual is not an indication of you ovulating. I learned the hard way. My entire life I had a normal cycle never missed one, so I thought I was ovulating. It wasn't until I was DX 6 months ago i was informed that I don't ovulate on my own, if i do it's not often. I have struggled with Inftertility for almost 6 years now. Had my miracle daughter in 2006 after four years of praying for her. and now I am on my second time around TTC.
i have said none of this to discourage....all of our journeys are different and I pray that your would be a rather short one.
Not sure if you've seen an RE, but that would be a great step. You can shart and use the o' tests first to see if you are ovulation on your own and if not you should see a Dr. But the fact that your cycles or becoming more normal is an awesome thing.
They put me on Clomid and I O'd both times. unfortuntely no pregnancy.
Just wanted to say welcome!! And wanted you to know that on these boards there's really no such thing as intruding!! Also I'm wishing you the best of luck in your ttc journey! And of course I can't say for sure but I'd say it's a safe bet to say that you will be a mother one day--you will just need to find out what works for your body, because everyones different!!
Good luck!!

thankyou everyone for advice and support. do o'tests work with pcos - on the packets it always says 'not adviced for sufferers of pcos'. if they do does anyone reccomend a brand? ill try this :-) x
From what I've read and experienced the OPKs can work with PCOS but they may not. My dr. told me to use them and they seem to work for me, but with PCOS since your hormones can be all over the place it's different for every person. Some women's LH levels are always high so the OPKs come back positive every time, since the tests just look for an LH level above the set baseline. You absically just have to try and see.
Good luck and baby dust!

Also, I've tried 2 brands of OPKs.
The first time I tried "Answer" and got positive results every day
Then I tried "Clearblue Easy" and it worked right.
With the Clearblue I used digital and the regular, they both show the same results but the digital are easy to read, plus if you take the test and forget to read it immedietly, the digital one stores it

Rie, if you try OPKs and they don't work, just chart your basal body temperature. You can use Fertility Friend to chart it. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
