Hi girls,
It's been agesss since I've been to this site, but I've found the time to re-visit, and just wanted to pop in and say hello and introduce myself.
My name is Rachel (27) DH is Greg (37) and we have our little "miracle" Nicholas Jakob who entered our lives on May 2nd 2003. We live in Perth, WA.
A little about our TTC journey.
We had quite a bumpy fertility road, which started with myself being diagnosed with lymphatic cancer when I was 19. After a year or so of treatment I was given the all clear, but was told it was very unlikely that I'd ever have any children. At the age of 20 I didn't really care, I was just happy to be cancer-free.
Forward wind a couple years. I met my husband and we married when I was 22. We started TTC when I was 23, and after many unsuccessful cycles/months I decided enough was enough and went to visit my local doctor (refusing to believe I couldn't have children). I had all the initial blood work, which came back showing I had PCOS, so my dr sent me for an untrasound of my ovaries, which showed a large mass on my right ovary and tube. Ofcourse cancer fears were set in motion and I had MANY tests, was sent to specialists, CT scans and all tests came back that it was a benign tumor, which in turn ended up being a large ovarian cyst (size of a soccer ball). I had the cyst removed via laparotomy and unfortunately lost my right tube in the process.
My TTC journey was taking it's toll and being a mother was proving to be a difficult task, but we ventured on....
My gyno was apprehensive about giving me clomid, but I convinced him (he was worried about more cysts) and we did metformin aswell.
My first cycle of clomid (50mg) was a bust, I took them on CD 5-9. The second cycle I took on CD 3-7 (without my dr knowing) and amazingly enough I tested ++++. We were over the moon!! We had actually just made our "first" initial IVF appointment which was 13 months away, it was one fertitity appointment I didn't mind cancelling!!
So we were blessed with Nicholas, who is now nearly two years old. DH and I are thinking of TTC another bundle this year, and hopefully we'll get our dream.
Sorry this turned in to such a novel, and I hope to be back on the boards a little more frequently.
Rachel
