Default Hi girls, does any of you have hypothyroidism?

Hi girls!

I just came back from the GP, not very happy, I'm not feeling very well and feeling letargic and foggy. Told this to GP and she said just to excersise more and eat less... and if I feel hunger pangs and so ravenously hungry I could eat myself, just hold on until the next meal... even if it was painful... the pain would go away eventually!
I suspect of hypothyroidism, but my THS results came at 2.5 (can't remember the units), bang in the middle of the range... has this happened to any of you?
I'm very confused and depressed that I feel so ill yet no one is helping me and I'm left to figure it out on my own.
i didn't ask for a endocrinologist appt. as I thought (s)he would just say the same: eat less excersise more!
PS sorry about the rant!

aRGH that advice about holding out til your next meal made me so angry!
You need more indepth blood work to determine if it is just about will power or some underlining blood sugar or other hormonal issue.
Ring your surgery and ask about getting a referral to see an endocrinologist.
In the meantime, if you don't already, try eating more regulalry but smaller amounts, reducing the simple sugars and carbs in your diet and replacing them with more complex ones. If you find eating regularly hard- I know I do, try eating a small amount of protein when you get the inbetween meal pangs. I have three brazil nuts or a few mixed seeds, but I am careful with the amount because they are high in calories.

I hope that helps.

Hi Flubby!
Thanks for the advice!... I'm a very weary of going back to my GP to ask for a referal to the Endocrinologist, I don't think she'll be happy about it as I belive she was under the impression that I'm depressed, lazy and hypocondriac!
Ok.. I may not workout frequently
but I do try to eat healthy, eat only whole grain bread, try to balance it with proteins, I've given up grapes, bananas and other starchy fruits
I'm also taking Chromium GTF... but nothing seems to help.... and I do crave carbs, I try not to eat them, but if I don't then I get really bad headaches!
I do try to eat when I'm hungry and not eat a lot!.... in truth I haven't gained weight, but I'm not loosing it either, and I need to!
maybe I shall give it a go, because excersise and diet sounds like dah! diagnosis... at least she didn't prescribe me antidepresants.

hi
aww, could you see another dr?? Either at the practice where you are - or go to another surgery? That's what i had to do - change dr to get a referal to an endo.

Yeah what eva said, can you change GP's?
I get het up about this because I waited years while my GP told me I was vain worrying about excess hair hairloss and horrific sudden wieght gain. She wouldn't send me for tests and when I finally insisted she said all women have polycystic patterns on their ovaries it didn't mean anything!
When I finally moved and changed surgery I had an appointment booked within weeks of registering. By then I had dark skin patches bald spots a full beard and what looked like a hump on my back. My endo was not impressed!
You need to see an endo, you are entitled to see an endo.
Once you get one you won't have to discuss PCOS issues with your horrible GP anymore. Honestly make yourself an appointment and calmly ask for a referral, if they won't give you one ask why and ask if the surgury can arrange a second opinion on that. What might help is if you took food charts of what you ate and charts of any excercise, I find that makes them panic that you are going to make them read that stuff everytime they see you!
I'm really annoyed I wasted time being nervous of my GP.
I am mentally kicking yours up the butt on your behalf!

I agree, some docs are not listening, they might be docs but its our bodies, i have underactive thyroid, and it took a while for my doc to diagnose it, i was tired, cold, miserable, my hair started falling out althought that could have been the pcos,i put on more weight and i just felt rubbish, but if it is your thyroid you must get it checked out, you really must insist, dont worry about the doc getting shirty with you, you dont have to live with them, you look after number one. otherwise we'll come around and take you by the hand lol, be kind to yourself, and get some treatment. thinking of you macalla
