Lightbulb Hi i am new but old.....

Hi everyone, i am new to this forum but old to PCOS. i am 24 and i was diagnosed when i was 18. I am currently trying my best to get scanned and treated etc... but i have ended up going private cos the nhs is useless. I am from Liverpool and i am desperate for a baby but no chance at the mo because i haven't had a period since October so obviously not ovulating. Who has to prescribe me the drugs- my gp or the gynae??? If anyone can help i will be really grateful?

Hi Liverbird

Welcome to Soulcysters.

I am also trying to concieve number 1.

I have seen a Gynae 3 times now and havent been prescribed anything. My gynae actually refused to give me Metformin. She has now refered me to an Endocrinologist who is a hormone specialist.

From the posts I have seen on SC this is the best person to go to.

Hope this helps

Feel free to PM or e-mail me anytime

Lucy

hi cat, thanks for your reply. Why did she refuse you metformin? How long have you been trying?

Well, I came of Dianette around November last year so we have been trying since then, but i am currently on medication for anxiety which I am in the process of coming off but my GP says that while I am still on it I shouldn't be trying for a baby so we have stopped trying in the past month or so.

When the gynae refussed me Metformin she basically said I couldn't have it then after promting she said:

1) I should be trying for a baby for longer before trying Met

2) Met wont help my other symptoms (excess hair, acne etc). I tried to show her info from Soulcysters but she wouldn't read it

3) Losing weight will help all my symptoms so i wont need met!

If you read my post "so angry" on the UK thread if gives the full horror story of my visit to the gynae - lol

Hi there - DH and I have been trying to conceive #1 for three years on and off. My gp didn't know what to tell me so she sent me for testing and then to a gynea appointment. The gynea put me on Met right away since we had been trying for a while. We're doing this for three months and then come May if nothing has worked she suggested putting me on Clomid. I know it's difficult, I'm only 26 and have wanted a baby for a few years myself! Let me know how private hc works for you if you can. We have it but the info is a bit overwhelming, it looks to us like it only covers major surgery. Good luck!

Cheers,
Maz

Hi Cat - I got refered to Grantham hospital. I didn't see the head doc that I was scheduled for. I should probably mention it was a female doc that worked with him. So, I'm not sure how he would have received me in that situation honestly.

Good luck to you!

Hi Liverbird,

I am too from Liverpool (well a few miles just outside) which hospital have you been seen at?

I got refered by my gp to a gyne but he has been fine with me..I had to push him a little for the treatment i wanted but he gave me met straight away and then clomid then ovarian drilling in dec....I am just waiting to go back now in June maybe try some more clomid but then be refered for IUI. In the meantime i am trying to loose weight.
Some of the dr's in the NHS are rubbbish and haven't got a clue about PCOS but others are great and really understanding I would recommends my gyne...I wouldn't shout off the top buildings about him but i get the treatment i want and he is polite and listens...he has never made an issue of my weight either which i think is very important.

Which area of Liverpool are you from?
