Default Hi I'm 19, I'm new

Hi my name is Amanda & I'm 19.

In January (& maybe even a bit before) I stopped getting my periods. They had been irregular before but I always thought it was due to stressed since I have been diagnosed with depression & anxiety disorders for a long time. Then when they stopped completely I thought maybe I was pregnant, when I found out I wasn't I finally convinced my mom to take me to the gyno for the first time ever. They took a lot of tests but she was like probably a combination of stress or maybe hormones so she put me on birth control (which I needed anyway) and said that it would probably help regulate me. She said she would call if the tests & blood work showed anything bad & not call if everything was fine.

Well today she called & was like your blood tests showed a hormonal imbalance called PCOS. That's all she said. "oh it's a hormonal imbalence." She said keep taking my birth control because thats one of the treatments. I tried just kept waiting for her to say something but she really didn't, she didn't even say the real name just kept calling it a hormonal imbalance & PCO & that she'd see me in 3 months to get my blood pressure because of the birth control. So I thought oh okay if that's all I need to know. Just lacking some hormone that birth control will fix.

Then I read a lot of stuff online later & got really upset. I told my boyfriend what I had read & he wondered why I wasn't really told more by my doctor or anything. So now I'm just confused. I really don't know if I should think this is really bad or if this is just another thing to deal with or live with.

I guess what upsets me the most is that I've always wanted to have 5 kids, that's when I started crying was when I read about the infertility thing. I notice a lot of the symptoms & have for awhile but everyone always said it was maybe because my insulin was a bit high.

I just wonder if I've always had this since I've been getting periods or has it just started within the last year when I've noticed problems. Maybe it's because i've gained a lot of weight in the past year? I mean I've never been thin since about 16 when I started being over weight but in the past year I've become over 200 lbs. by far my highest ever

Welcome! Don't let the diagnosis get to you! If you know what's wrong, you know there are options. It's if you can't figure out what is wrong.

Don't stress too much about infertility. It's terrible when you have it, but lots of PCOS women go on to have kids. Plus, you're forewarned, and you know not to wait until 38 to start. I hope you will find help here!
