Hi, my name is Lucy, I'm 28 and live in the Chicago area. I've been in a committed relationship for 7 years and we're childfree by choice.
I was diagnosed several years ago by my general practitioner. She's a great doctor, but I'm at the point where I need to make some decisions about my health and want to start seeing a real gynecologist. I know there's an PCOS Center at University of Chicago.
My mom has also been diagnosed with PCOS. We share most of the symptoms, but she has some I don't have.
I have the irregular periods (I was on The Pill for about 9 years and just decided to get off this month, for a myriad of reasons), the weight issues, acne (occasionally). When I was a teenager, I had ovarian cysts, though they were never detected on an ultrasound. I never had any rupture or anything and when I went on the pill, I mostly stopped having the pain.
My mom has most of those symptoms, and also the hair loss.
My GP has tested my hormome levels in the past (I'm not completely sure about what was tested though) and according to her, the levels aren't that far off from normal, but I'm pretty sure there's something going on.
I posted in the looking for a doctor section for a gynecologist...should I also go see an endocrinologist?
I'm sort of looking for the next step here, and I'm a little freaked out about what's going to happen now that I've stopped taking the pill.
