Default Hi I'm new

Hello all,
I am an American living in London with my English fiancé.
I was dx'ed with PCOS when I was 17 after years of horrible periods. The dr put me on the pill, my pain went way, periods were lighter so I was happy. Now I am 30, getting married, and worried that I will have trouble TTC.

I asked my GP about PCOS and she said it wasn't a problem until it was a problem. I do not like this answer, I want to know if I should be doing something now!

I have private insurance, what should I do?

Thanks ladies!

Get a different doctor! I had the same treatment as you initially, however it took a very long time for my periods to come back at all when I finally came off the pill 5 years ago. I have just started trying to conceive and whilst I haven't managed it yet, I feel a lot more in control of my cycle than I would be if I had only just stopped taking bcp. I needed metformin and also had acupuncture to kick start my periods again and this has been brilliant for me but it took a while.

I suggest the sooner you come off the pill the better as your body might need time to get used to not relying on synthetic hormones. You may not have any problems of course, but it's better to know sooner rather than later if you do. Personally I think the medical profession should not be putting everyone with pcos on the pill. It's easy for them as it masks the symptoms, but it makes it harder for you to ovulate on your own when you eventually come off it and want to conceive.

Rant over. Good luck!
