Smile Hi! I'm new too - and a question

Was just diagnosed this week with PCOS and IR. Been having symptoms for years like hair loss (big time), acne, easy weight gain, high cholesterol and spaced out periods. Was always told nothing was wrong with me *sigh*. Luckily, I got a great endo who gave me a 3 hr glucose test and finally came to the conclusion that I had pcos. I'm glad to finally figure this out after years of disturbing symptoms. I've had terrible hair loss and I'm hoping that the Met will help me recover some of what was lost. My endo has informed me that this takes an entire lifestyle change and that's tough for me! I'm difficult to get to change my ways but it's worthwhile to avoid the possible future health complications that comes with this condition.

I have a question. My endo has recommended that I pick up one of these two books and I'd like to know if anyone has any opinions on them.

1.) The PCOS Diet Book: How you can use a nutritional apporach...
2.) The Insulin Resistance Diet Book

I appreciate your feedback and I'm happy to have found this message board!

Take things step by step hun. I know my biggest hurdle was giving up the soda habit. This is a girl who's first words ever spoken, wasn't mom or dad but "Coke is it", the advertising string that was active at that time. I've been a soda junkie for ages. Its been 3 weeks and I haven't consumed any caffienated drinks or soda. I have also slowly been giving up my chocolate too. My carb intake has been cut in half. I tried to do it all at once and failed miserably at it. from what I have read, the IR Diet is supposed to be really good. My doc wants me on Atkins first. Good luck on your road of dieting. And welcome to the boards... I am always available for emails

Hello and welcome to SC!!

Right now, I am on The Insulin Resistance diet and I have to say that I really like it. In two weeks I lost 10 pounds. I am severely insulin resistant. I've tried all diets out there and this seems to be the only one that is working for me!

If you have any questions feel free to PM me!

I don't know the first book, but I swear by the IR Diet. It is THE best. Easy to follow, once you grasp the concept, and it is not diet but a whole new way of eating, one that will do your body so much good that eventually you won't miss the 'bad' foods anymore, especially if you add Metformin.

Welcome to Soulcysters. Glad you found us.

It cleared my brain fog, brought back af, helped me lose weight, made me o' again, and helped me get pregnant. My first Metformin miracle is now 3 years old, my second (surprise one) arrived December11!
