Default HI! I'm new, VERY new to this. Just diagnosed today!

Hello everyone!
I was just diagnosed with PCOS today, it really feels like an ovarian death sentence. We've been trying this baby thing for 10 years on our own off and on. When we decided to get aggressive, I found my new doctor. She's just wonderful!!!

I have read several posts so far and noticed the mention of Metformin several times. My doctor mentioned Glucophage to me today... is this the same drug just different name?
I'm also supposed to have an HSG, and I'm terrified! It will be scheduled on Monday, hopefully I don't have to wait too long.

I'm glad that I found you all!!

Hello and Welcome to SC!
Metformin and Glucophage are the same drug.
Metformin worked wonders for me when it came to TTC.
I had been TTC for more than 14 years when I was introduced to Metformin.
Within 2 months I had lost 20 lbs.and became pregnant with my first daughter.
When my daughter was 15 months old I became pregnant again without medical help and I now have 2 beautiful little girls who are the joy of my life!
PCOS don't have to be an"ovarian death sentence"...there is hope!
As for the HSG....I won't lie to you...it is not an easy test to have done but you will get through it and be fine,I'm sure.
I am sooo glad that you found us all here at SC...These ladies are amazing and will help you with any questions that you may have.
Good Luck!

Welcome to soulcysters!! You will find that this is a site full of wonderful, helpful women. I was only diagnosed in May. I am happy to report that I have two beautiful children all naturally. My son was a surprise and I believe that I was blessed with him because I had lost a large amount of weight (104 pounds). I never knew that I had PCOS before I had my children and I never thought to worry about my fertility at the age of 23. I just want you to remember not to give up, no matter what. Miracles are born every day. Just look around on this site and read the stories of the blessings that some of these wonderful women have received. We are here for you every step of the way. Feel free to share your thoughts and feelings and rant when you need to. We are in this together.

Thanks for the warm welcome, ladies.
I'm just trying to gather as much information for myself as possible. Reading and educating myself will help me deal with the emotional aspect of the road ahead... at least that's what I'm praying for!

I wasn't sure if Glucophage and Metformin were one and the same or not, thank you.
If it wasn't the same, I was going to be talking with my doctor about Metformin instead!

I'm looking forward to getting to know many of you, this seems like a great support system you all have here!

Thanks again,
Heather

Welcome Heather!

I'm another metformin success story! On met my cycles improved, I lost weight, and I got pregnant! If you do start met (and I'm sure you'll hear this elsewhere but it really helps, so...) try taking it right in the middle of your meal. Also low-carbing worked best for me and starting out at a lower dose (500 mg) and gradually working up (1500 mg was the destination for me). Some cysters take 2000 mg. Hope this helps.

I've never had an HSG but I'll be thinking of you and hoping it goes well. If you need a listening ear I'm here for you.

Hugs cyster
Jenny
