Hi, I'm newly diagnosed, worried and can use some support and advice!
Hi, so glad to have found this site! I've been reading all the great sticky posts and info, I have hours upon hours of reading to do I see.
I'd really love some opinions and thoughts, I'm still quite confused here about my diagnosis.
So my story: I never had regular periods, always erratic since I was 12. I was put on Yasmin since 17 to regulate my periods. I stayed on the BCP until 6 months ago, when I was 24.
I have always been very weight conscious, and for about 3 years followed a very restrictive diet that kept me very skinny but lacked a little nutritionally (no salt, fat of any kind, sugar, soy, dairy, nuts, flour, etc. I basically just ate low starch veggies, apples, brown rice, fish, chicken.) I developed UC (ulcerative colitis) for about two years, but recently (6 months ago) found a great naturopath who "cured" me of UC through a major dietary overhaul. I'm now eating according to the Blood Type Diet and eating so much more foods and healthy fats. I also decided to stop the BCP at this time to bring my body back to a natural place.
Lo and behold, I never got a cycle. I say my OBGYN and she checked my levels, said I was very low estrogen (5) but since we didn't know where on my cycle I was, she said continue to eat healthy and wait three months. I upped my soy, flax, maca, etc and kept waiting. Now 6 months later I went back in and she did an internal ultrasound. She showed my my ovaries and told me they were full of follicles and cysts (to my eye, they looked like honeycombs) and she told me I had PCOS. She also said my uterine membrane was paper thin.
She worried my by saying she wants to do treatment to keep me away from menopausal symptoms (I'm 25!) and also gave me an app with her endocrinologist (two months away). She told me I likely will not be able to get pregnant naturally but will need clomid or other help (I'm not ready to get pregnant yet, but I assume within 5 years!).
She put me on 5 days of Provera, I took my first dose last night. If I bleed, she wants me to run in for another blood test to check estrogen.
I'm so worried and confused because I'm still a bit lost, so what happens after provera assuming I get my period, will it keep coming? What next if I don't bleed?
Also, can my past diet have caused this? She felt my restriction and too little estrogenic food and no cholesterol really damaged my body.
I have an app with a Holistic MD next week who specializes in women's health. I'm big about natural and western medicine. Anyone here do bioidentical hormones?
Thanks for any advice, I know a lot is posted already so I'll read and search around!
I should add I haven't really noticed any other syptoms yet, no oily skin, no hair growth/loss, no obesity. I'm thin, not as thin as I used to be when I severly restricted my diet, but in healthy weight for my height.
Now that I just read this, I had a healthy cycle many years ago when I followed the blood type diet. I think I'm going to grab my dusty book from the box and start that again...WOW!!! I hadn't put 2 and 2 together until right now!!! Hmmm....THANKS!
