Cool hi my story

i was diagnosed with pcos 3 months ago and had never heard of it. all i knew was i felt ill and had not had a period for 6 months.
the doctor refused to give me anything until i went for a scan to see how bad the cysts were.
well i still have not had a scan and my symptoms are feelingtired all the time, hairy chest, feet, legs and a moustache. i already had depression but it is worse, feeling sick everytime i have a drink or anything to eat. period pain without the period and putting on weight even though i am not eating a great deal. plus i have discoloured skin on my thighs making me that paranoid i wont go swimming.
my usual doctor is great and has said even though i have two sons 4 and 3 i could have had pcos for about 5 years, but she thinks it is unlikely that i will have anymore also i have had a few miscarriages which she thinks could have been due to pcos. but that part i dont mind as i have my boys.
but i went to the doctors the other day and saw a differant doctor who told me that there is nothing wrong with me and it is all in my head, he does not think that tiredness is caused or a symptom of pcos and that everything i have just described to you guys is just in my head so i am now thinking that i am going mad.

Welcome to Soulcysters Anne. I'm glad you found us, a diagnosis of PCOS is scary and confusing, but here you'll find lots of answers, and believe me, no one here will tell you its in your head!

The gynae I saw told me I had been born with it and would always have it, but there are ways to overcome symptoms. Hopefully your regular doctor will look at possible treatmeants with you once you have your scan, but the odd thing about PCOS is that not all women have cysts, so the scan isn't really the most conclusive way to figure out how severe it is. You should also have blood tests, ask your doctor to do that for you. Have a look around the bpards, you will find info on what tests you should. It may be worth printing off some of Kat's research articles and showing your doc. I always write down what I want to discuss with my doctor, that way I don't forget, or if he/she tries to fob me off I don't lose my train of thought.

Good luck and I look forward to getting to knowyou.
Deeds x

Hi Anne,

Welcome! I was really annoyed to hear what the doctor said to you, perhaps it would be an idea to give him/her the details of this Website!! Perhpas he/she might then educate themselves at bit more!

I have been fortunate because I have a female doctor who suggested to me that I may have PCOS. I had blood tests which came back inconclusive so she insised that I had a scan which came back confirmin multiple cysts on both ovaries. She has now made an appointment for me to see a Gyne but I will probably have to wait months to see him. She doesn't want to put me on anything until then.

I was suffering from bad depression and my doctor put me on Prozac. I take two tablets every morning (they took about 8 weeks to kick in) and I am feeling so much better. She thinks part of my depression is caused by the PCOS so she is keeping me on it until I have seen the specialist.

Stick in there and make sure your doctor give you every test know to man!!!
